Incline Presses & Flyes - Waste of Time and Energy?

PoweredUp said:
That actually brings up another question or two. Can emphasizing an area of a muscle (like the upper chest) result in more growth in that particular area, or will the entire muscle grow evenly regardless of the focal point?

And is it even necessarily more beneficial to use less weight to emphasize the upper chest versus putting up more weight on a flat bench where you hit the chest more evenly?

theres a reason you use less weight: because the stabilizer muscles are different in this movement as compared to the regular bench. you do not have as much support. i still love the movement.

whenever you like come on down. been lifting for 19 years now. i can move a shitload of weight on most all exercises. comes with the experience. i dont need to exaggerate my shit online. 100 for flies is not alot at my gym. its above average. and i can move the 110s for 6. the 150s, 160s, and 170s are routinely used for db bench at my gym. the 200s come out a few times a month too. theres a stable of 50 year olds and up who put me to shame. deads over 500, i got 480 on saturday, and squats with 6 plates for sets of 8. after all this time lifting and dieting i better be moving that weight or im just wasting my time.

im not very impressed with your lifts considerng you lifted 19yrs. I lifted seriously only the past 3 years and my best dl is 505.. i do 8 plus plates for reps.., i squat 315 for reps of 5 off a milk crate.. im 6'2" 225lbs the milk crate is about 10" of the ground..

i think if u wasted less time on flys maybe you can focus more on your squats and deads.

also note professional bodybuilders dont even waste there time doing 100lb db flys, they do them after a very heavy flat and incline bench, so they have nothing left in the tank to do flys, so they do them for high reps with low weight... so unless your doing db semi fly semi flat bench press your BS.

PS, if your so big post your picture. its just in fun anyway.. ill post mine..i would love to see whta my chest is missing if i incorporated 100lb db flys

thats funny, im 5'5" 193. your 9 inches taller and 37 pounds heavier yet we lift nearly the same. actually pound for pound i make you look silly and ive only been dl'ing for about 4 years since my hips healed. but good for you. and the 100 lbs flies are full range of motion, but believe what you will - i dont care.

see all my other posts about pic posting. i dont do it. whoever is stupid enough to post pics of themselves on an illegal drug board must have little to lose in life.

ill let you talk away on the computer. i gain/lose nothing from you or your praises/insults. thanks for trying. see you later.

Settle down girls... flyes may work very well for some, but for others it might not be necessary in order to accomplish a full chest.
Everyone happy?
K good.

I have to agree. Ive seen vids of arnold busting his ass using 80 lb DBs for flys. And your saying you use 110s. lol I sure hope you bench is at least over 415.

great post. im done here.

I use the 25's, but hold each one at the bottom for 10-20 seconds more of a stretch to try to get my pecs looser

the guys who failed the casting-call for High School Musical who inhabit the area around my gym's DB rack are sure to let me know they could kick my ass any day of the week when they see me lifting such huge weights.

dont know. havent flat benched in years but the last time i did 365 for 3 i think. my very close friend who placed 7th in the world bbing championships in china (he did it all naturally too) benched 380 at a bw of 160 and he uses the same weight as i do in most exercises. he shits on me and is 5'2". is that a lie and completely unbelievable too?

arnold was doing sets of 15 with those 80's and he made it look easy. had control of the weight throughout a complete range of motion - practically hitting the floor with the dbs, there was no struggle, that looked like effort.

just cause you might not be able to do flies with the weight i can doesnt mean others cant. never said i was the strongest man ever. i move good weight for my size. sorry if that is unbelievable for you. im sure your powerful too. im never said you werent and i sure as shit wouldnt call bs on lifts that are completely possible. if i said i was squatting 650 in the hole or dl'ing 600 then call bs. not on lifts that are doable by most people with an extensive training history. seriously, none of the numbers i posted are outrageous, whats the problem?

static holds are tough. this type of thing and the dc stretching always get my shoulders messed up. i like the static holds on the smith machine for incline/flat bench during hypertrophy phases. great exercises.
