The British Universities Judo Championship, I have never competed in martial arts before so it is completely new to me.

Hopefully the other people on my team will stop me from doing anything too stupid.

I have been doing it 5 months and there are lots of good black belts in my weight class and some international teams.

I'll update with how it goes.

How'd the male showering go?

ok, but as I was in there, there was the 62 year old coach trying to have a discussion with me as he was stood at the door fully clothed and I was showering, I was all like wait till I get out fatty

Three things to remember:

1) Wax on
2) Wax off
3) Crane

Good luck! Eye of the Tiger tuc! Eye of the Tiger!

I hope to use the line 'mercy is for the weak' at some point and be in a bar where some sort of ice breaking competition is going on, and have sex with a few japanese women too.

im competing as well this weekend.. although it is a much smaller tournament then the one you are entering this weekend..

lol, the thing is he had already showered and I saw him walking across the changing rooms with towel in one hand and underwear in the other, but choosing just to let it all hang out

good luck, and try to relax when you get there.

there no doubt be some people that want to warm up for 3 hours before their matches...don't do that. 20 minutes beforehand should be enough.

good luck

yeah, I have a pretty good ashiwaza (foot sweep) hopefully I can beat a few people right off the bat with that

cheers, i know I will be pretty damn nervous (like shaking and feeling sick) but that is good I reckon

I forgot to add that I fear the hardest part of the weekend will be fighting off all the amorous advances from the females there.

definately your first judo tournament!

if you have good foot sweeps use them as much as possible.. especially against the blackbelts or people you feel can throw you.. use them to keep you opponent from attacking and after you attack with foot sweeps continue with another attack.. if that doesnt get him go right into another footsweep and repeat..

also the easiest way to warm up is to do a lot of uchi komi (fit ins) but dont use throws you will actually use and break a good sweat that way.. also practice your grip fighting aggressively before your first match...

good luck!
