Here in Ky you can just file a motion for legal name change. The court will grant a court order to change your name. You bring certified copies of the Order when you change your name on your license and Soc. Security.

don't you also have to have notices published in the paper?
and you have to notify DMV, Social Security, and the IRS I believe.

it makes getting a passport more difficult, because you have to have your birth certificate AND your legal name change documents.

i've changed my name (first and last, and not because of marriage). its a lengthy process if done legally.

does that have anything to do with this...

it just seems like it would be way more money and hassle than it's worth. plus if god forbid one of your family members required serious medical treatment, you wouldn't have any say in their care. not sure how much you despise them though

Yeah, you change it at the soc security office and on your license with the order. When it comes time to file taxes, you have to new name listed with soc security already. It isn't that big of a tadoo.
