more intelligent? maybe in some cases, but that's far from anything I've ever learned academically

I've admitted that I only have what the shrink told me, what the professional counselor (though admittedly I do not know their acreditation) and what the research that WE BOTH did said.

Doesn't mean that this could only be a particular segment of the population with ADD/ADHD but of all the people that I do know with it - we are all above average intelligence, one actually MENSA member... not biteme MENSA... but really.

Still, IQ is not an accurate predictor of success in life.

My posts were not meant to say *look at us we are smart* - not at all. What I was trying to say for those others who don't know that they may be the case, to look at the situation differently. Not say, "My kid is slow, now WTF am I going to do." but "My kid may just be bored because they aren't being stimulated enough. What can I do to fascilitate that?" :)

My older brother was diagnosed with adhd and now is a radiation oncologist who did his training at the number 1 cancer hospital in the nation in MD Anderson in Houston,

He has to take his adderall, which I stole one once and it made me a fucking zombie... I couldn't even relate to people... but he does quite well actually, though, I also do have to admit he's kinda MENSA level IQ, he is really genius level, however off of his meds... he gets pissed at the smallest shit... on he's cool. I didn't read all of this thread and am sure there is a debate over meds and overprescribing... it helped my bro who is successful now. :)

As for adhd, I think we all have it to some extent, there is a cultural like adhd with the overwhelming amounts of information and d2 stimulation going on being surrounded by visual, audio, cocaine just so marketers can get your attention... don't even get me started with how this is affecting children today... I mean the 1 week I didn't have my laptop and forced myself not to use a computer, this was last summer, no classes... I seriously felt like
withdrawal, it was weird and uncomfortable to say the least... there are biochemical physiological responses we don't take into account by being conditioned with the amounts of stimulation we are bombarded with every day... but this is like yelling fire in a crowded theatre, I shouldn't even mention it, cause I dunno what the fuck there is to do about it. :worried:

If someone benefits from the medication (and is old enough to make that determination - we are not talking a 6 year old that just wont behave because his parents are inept fools) then I do believe they should take it.

As for getting unplugged - I haven't watched TV in 8 years and as for the net. Aside from work, I have NO ISSUE not even taking my laptop out of its case. :)

Just try it for one week. If you make it through a week then you will be good to go.

That is so weird, cause lately I find it hard to watch TV, I'm unsure why as well... but yeah I think you are right it only takes like a week to shake it off...
As far as meds go, don't get me wrong I'm not going to push them, I take a shitload of nootropics... however, with adderall there are substantial side effects...

okay this is the meanest thing I've ever done to my brother when living with him for a summer like 7 years ago, but one time when I was really mad at him, and the reasons are an accumulation but I think I was just moody and jealous at the time, but I took his meds and he had like 10 or so left of adderall, and flushed them down the toilet, but it fucked him up completely... first after beating the shit out of me, and I knew he would, but still I was younger and very stupid...

With the attitude of fuckit, I took my revenge, but after he beat the living hell out of me, he slept for like 24 hours, and woke up weak, mad, irritable, and feeling withdrawal from the amphetamine... we both went to the shrink and told him the whole story and luckily he wrote a script... my bro missed 2 days of medschool cause of me... however, there are I think longterm effects once they are on meds... like I know for a fact that my bro can't really function nearly as well when he is off, he says things are foggy and he gets pissed and is irritable, and its annoying. So there are things one has to take into consideration like they could be on for life... and dosages escalate higher and higher to maintain strength... I dunno what my brother dosage is, but I'm guessing its relatively high. :chomp:

my sis is on adderall

i took it and felt a definate sense of well being, a huge difference

seems to be something that just about anyone could become dependant on
