If one truly has a kid with ADD or ADHD that parent does have to work harder to keep their kid on the right path... true. But who has *the perfect* kid?

j/k I LOVE each one of my kids' total quirkiness and am REALLY HAPPY that there is almost NOTHING *average* about any of them.

I dont know why any parent would want their kid to be *average*.

But then again I am freaking wierd!

Too many people get stuck on the whole self pity trip, ‘look at me, poor me, I have this terrible affliction,’ it’s the answer they wanted to hear, all too often a convenient excuse, a note from their doctor which says it’s ok to be a lazy imbecile…save it for the birds.

average is boring...I cannot relate because I havo no kids of my own, but when I do, I'd hate for them to be average and would like to see them fight for their individuality - you'd be surprised how character building that is.

I have it, my husband has it, my sister's oldest son has it and I am pretty sure my third daughter does as she is JUST LIKE ME, and I am thinkin my second may also as she processes information similarly.

HOWEVER - none of us is/was EVER a discipline problem.

I do agree that too many people use this as an excuse for poor parenting.

People with ADD or ADHD are more intelligent and require more mental stimulation because they bore easily. It is NOT a bad thing IMHO, it is actually a gift as it helps you to do more than one task at a time. But you need only be aware you have these issues and know that you must either REALLY focus on something you find to be painfully boring or YOU WILL screw it up. LOL

As for not being able to behave - that is utter bunk.

Granted neither my husband or I or any of the other members of my family who are this way are *average* in many regards, but why would we WANT that?

more intelligent? maybe in some cases, but that's far from anything I've ever learned academically
