Gun rights people, do you really need 30-75 round ammo clips?

Or do you just want them for toys? I can't imagine what practical purpose a civilian has for military weapons. I read this article:

I'm in disbelief that someone could actually think it's necessary to have so much firepower. What are you afraid is going to happen to you? In the unlikely event that 10 people break into your home simultaneously you're not going to win a shootout with them anyway. Please explain the reasonable, practical purpose of high capacity clips?

i have piss poor eyesight and am a shitty shot.

In the US, is any kind of training required to own/carry a gun? Or can you just walk into a local walmart and pick up an M-16 or Glock?

it varies by state. some states require a license/permit/waiting period and some do not. all states require a background check, which is done over the phone with the states local FBI offices.

my states requires no license, permit, waiting period, etc. god bless this state.

to buy a handgun you must be 21, and to buy a long gun (shotgun or rifle) you must be 18.

and you cannot buy a machine gun unless you have a class III permit and pay a $200 tax stamp. it is very hard to get a class III permit from the BATF.

Walmart stopped carrying handguns after the Brady Law went into affect. This requires a 5 day waiting period for handguns and created paper work so they got out of the pistol business. Before then, yes you could go to Walmart and buy a pistol just by showing a driver's license. You can still buy a rifle or shotgun in Walmart in the same manner. As far as M-16's, those are fully automatic and require a special permit. Colt makes a civilian version that is semi-auto called the AR-15. It's good for gangsters making a hit on rivals.

I hate government intervention/regulation, but you'd never think about driving a car without going through drivers ed. first...doesn’t it make sense to require some kind of safety training for gun ownership?

Poink, would you really be comfortable if every person in your city was armed? You don't think it would turn into the OK Corral every Saturday night?

Ever been to Vermont ? Almost everyone has a pistol there and I never saw any gangsta shooting so far.

actually, the waiting period is not a federal law and it varies by state. the states that have it, have it because it was passed by their state legislature, and it can vary from 3-7 days.

AR-15's are made by more than a 100 manufacturers, not just colt. and AR-15's account for less than 1% of gun related crime.
