Buck, with your size, you would definately be a forward. You may not be fat enough to be a prop, but with your build, more likely a flanker or a lock. There are several rugby sites online. Do a websearch and look for the rules and postions, concentrating on the forwards. As an aside, I hope you don't mind another guy hoisting his arm up between your legs in order to get a grip on your shorts
This is needed in order to get a good bind in the scrum , the tighter the scrum, the easier it is to push the opposing side away from the ball. Pads???? who needs pads???
He's 250, a sprinter and you want him to be part of the
pack????? Are you nuts???
And a prop/flanker to boot...Haha They're normally slow
players.
Go for wing(I'm assuming you're FAST. I mean 11.2-12.0s
100m times and FIT.)
Full-back(What I play) wouldn't be your style as you need
exceptional kicking capabilities.(I play soccer competitively)
However, If you can kick 60+yards w/ both feet and
drop the ball within 5 yeards of a picked spot then go for
it. To play Full-back you have to be VERY fit. You have to cover
the ENTIRE Back-side, and on offense you're right inside
the wing.
And get ready to be injured. I mean stepped-on, kicked,
punched, speared, you-name-it. Rughby games can get
CHEAP. I once saw a player get drop-kicked if you can
believe it.
Party-wise, after-game beer-a-thons normally get VERY
OUT of control. Specially when the oppossing team happens
to come in for a drink too........LOL
Rugby is MORE vicious than american football. Be prepared
to fell VERY TIRED. 60minutes non-stop running =
2-3 STRAIGHT football games.
It is fun though.
I played rugby for the Oxford Harlequins U-21 here in
England but I don't have any experience playing
rugby in the US. Canada yes, but the US; no.
