Fewer want to work RE: peeps becuming adaptive to teh bong, gaming, & mom's basement

Re: Fewer want to work RE: peeps becuming adaptive to teh bong, gaming, & mom's base

Eh, path of least resistance is inherent to all living organisms.

I've officially reached the age where the generation born after my kid (late generation Y/early generation Z) scare me. Sometimes I think I'm one rocking chair away from being the old woman who sits on her porch yelling at kids to get off her lawn

And you know your grandparents thought the same thing about your generation :D

That is absolutely correct. My parents' parents thought Elvis shaking his hips would be the end of civilization as we know it.

But here's the twist: We subsidize this behavior now. In previous generations, reality sunk-in and the deviants had to straighten-up and find something useful to do. That's no longer the case.

So yes, every generation thinks the one before it is going to the dogs.

But the difference today is we've made it feasible to remain on the fringes and force someone else to pick up the tab.

Ah, but note that I recognize/acknowledge my thought patterns are ... how do I say it ... becoming less tolerant? :whatever:

However, I really, really think there is a difference between the current "teenaged" generation and that of say, 30+ years ago. Hell, there's scientific evidence, the whole child/teen obesity epidemic started in the mid 1980s. The kids born in the 1980s and later are NOT the same as those born before then.

Honestly, I'm so spectacularly relieved it's not now and will never be my problem.

Re: Fewer want to work RE: peeps becuming adaptive to teh bong, gaming, & mom's base

At 45, I'm stuck in the middle right now. I'm young enough to still vividly remember when my generation was going to destroy humanity. After all, we watched this sinful thing called MTV -- and before school even. So instead of us preparing our minds to learn, we would eat our sugary cereals and watch a black person tongue kiss a white person (Duran Duran, Hungry Like the Wolf).

But back then, the net was pretty lousy. If you weren't a productive member of society, it meant bad things. Truth is we didn't know what those bad things were, but it was just generally not ok. So sure enough, we put down the qualudes and barcardi 151, got an education and went off to work.

People don't have to do that now. It is entirely possible with the right combination of loans, government support and a little mooching to squeak-by. It won't be a great existence, but it's doable. In the rural counties of Tennessee, people will straight-out tell you that it's easier to settle for half of what you want for zero hours a week than it is to get all of what you want and have a full-time job.

I'm out of touch with the phenomenon of government-sponsored freeloading. Brb quitting.

Can I hang out in your basement?

I see this on a daily basis now, I deal with parents, specially the younger ones and they are freaking impossible, not only do they not want to put in ANY effort but they get picky too!

I have one particular mom who was becoming homeless(can't go home and no longer has $ for a hotel, her friends and family wont take her) so I got her several transition living/treatment facilities which she did not want to go to because they were in another county, WTF!? Then I get her something in this county and she says she doesn't want to go to a homeless shelter, what in the hell does she think? that I'm gonna check her into the damn Holiday Inn!?!?!

Have another family who lives off mom SS check, dad SS check and kid's SSI check, kid gets removed and now they wont stop bitching how we took part of their income!

Have another dad calling me furious because he got only like 30% of the food stamps he gets because we removed his kids, well DUH! you lose their benefits if you don't have them.

All of the above said ass munchers constantly blow up my phone even after hours for me to "fix" these problems for them despite me giving them numbers for the responsible agencies and me telling them we do NOT offer or finance these particular services/issues, god forbid they pick up their assurance wireless phone or *good lord* a pay phone and look for shit on their own.
