Farewell all, doctor says I can never lift weights again

I went to the doctor for some lower back pain last week. He had me take my shirt off and ask me about my chest being sunken in. I never really gave it a second thought but he gave me some tests and ask me some family history... Well yesterday I went to a specialist and got an EKG, turns out I have Marfan's Syndrome. I always thought I was just an extremely tall lanky guy, and now I have an uncurable heart disease. My dad is built almost exactly like I am so he is going in to the doctor tomorrow for an EKG to find out if he has it.

Should have realized it sooner, my grandpa died when he was 49, his dad when he was 32.

No more weights ever...it has been a big part of my life for the last year and a half. Really going to miss it :(

Oh well, shit happens.

Sorry to hear that bro, really sorry. I wish you the best.

One question tho - seriously - isn't exercise an important part of heart health?

sorry to hear that.......what's imporant is take care of you now. Take that energy and put it into something else you love.

Good luck

Sounds like u need a second opinion... I don't trust any doctor that says you can NEVER do something like exercise. Maybe going for PR triples is too much of a strain.. but certainly there are forms of lifting that can provide you with great benefit and contribute to your long term health.

I agree. I would seek more opinions..

agreed

Please get a second opinion.
If your relatives died a early death and didn't exercise, why would you want to follow in their footsteps? Just sayin' without knowing anything about your condition.
Good luck.

second and third opinions are always necessary when a doctor is giving you life altering advice!! is that to say no power lifting, what about lighter sets just for some muscle tone?? what about cardio?? if a doc told me that I'd definitely go see some other docs... not every doctor is equally qualified that is to say equally updated on the newest info and techniques!!

Goddang. Serious shit. Definitely get a 2d and 3d opinion on something this important.

Because of faulty connective tissue, the wall of the aorta (the large artery that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body) may be weakened and stretch, a process called aortic dilation. Aortic dilation increases the risk that the aorta will tear (dissect) or rupture, causing serious heart problems or sometimes sudden death.

I could see why intense training might be a bad idea.
