Anyone here cycle (roadbike, not the other "cycle"...)

I'd get a mountain bike and put slicks on it. That way you have a bike that's a bit more versatile. I dropped a lot of $$$ on mine, but you can get something decent in the $850-$1100 range.

Glad you posted.. I don't want to hijack, but don't feel this warrents a new thread.

How good is cycling daily for an hour or so for one who is cutting? I plan on starting an hour min cardio program daily. Cycling appeals to me so much more then running... Obviously it's better then sitting on ones ass, but is it as effective as running?

You can find some good prices on road bikes all over if you looked for something used. But if your looking for something like a Trek, Speaclized, Cannondale, Bianchi, BMC... Any professional endorsed bike, even if it's a base model you'll be paying at least 700-800 dollors for it. I recommend something along the lines of a Schwinn's Fastback. Great Begginer bike for the money... Like these other guys said, Roadbikes can cost some serious money, I have close to $8,000 dollars invested in my bike. But I have been riding avidly for many years now. As for you ssprio I think cycling is a great form of cardio. Think of it in the same terms as running, like you would do HIIT, or prolonged periods of riding like they do on tours. Works the same way. But nothing can actually "replace" running in my opinion.

IMO, Biking is not as intensive as running in most cases. On a bike you have periods of action and periods of just coasting. Where in running you entire body is in motion.

That said, I do spinning classes 3 days a week. And run 6-10 miles once per week. And some week I do speed drills and only do 2 days of spinning that week.

Hope this helps.

I love doing intervals on my bike, great cardio if you really bust yer ass. Oh yeah, if you get a bike , id invest in a computer for it, it will really help you monitor your training. good luck!

Werd!!!

I never knew how slow I was going untill I got a computer put on my bike, now it's no more slacking and pedal to the metal!!!

I'm going to go ahead and change my recommendation and say to go ahead and pay an extra $50 or so and get a Giant OCR 3. Retails at 600 and you can probably get it a bit cheaper. You may have to buy pedals and, of course, a helmet.

I hate to sound low rent here, but I spent $300. CAN on a bike 3 weeks ago. I've ridden it about 8 - 10 km every other day & ridden it twice to work (32 km both ways). No problems with it. It's been great! I'm diabetic & it's done wonders for my sugar. I also have arthritic knees & it's a lot better than running for me. I'm not in as good a shape as most of youse guys, so it's a great change from the cardio machine's at the gym.

Yeah,
Cycling and running use similar motion in the lower body but cycling is low impact=easy on the joints and tendons. :)
