ALA and Ketosis.....

Yep, that has been my experience as well, although I found I could be in ketosis even if I ate 300-400 grams of carbs/day, by simply upping the amount of ALA to several grams, and weight lifting vigorously.

There's nothing quite like eating carbs and still being in ketosis!

ALA is simply awesome. This stuff is a miracle for the bb community.

In regards to Ranger and Cornholio....are you doing guys doing low carbs with these being carb up days or are you just constantly taking in around 200-300 carbs and staying in moderate range?

Past seven days around 200-100g of carbs.

As long as my total caloric intake is less than maintainance I stay around that range. So for example my weight is approx 183 lbs.
My maintainance seems to be approx 183 * 15 --> 2745 calories, say about 2800. To lose fat, I go about 500-600 calories below maintainance, to about 2200 calories.
If I have 300 grams of carbs that's 1200 calories, leaving me with filling the remaining 1000 calories from proteins and fats. After taking in about 200 additional grams of protein (800 calories), that leaves me with about 200-300 calories I can get from fat.
I usually eat a bit more than that in fat calories, but most of these don't "stick", because I take a shitload of psyllum husk fiber capsules (amount varies, with how much ice cream I have :) ).
The majority of the fats get bound to the psyllum husk and excreted.
But, sometimes I do cheat, and have a bit too much ice cream, and go over maintanance, and my skin thickness goes up by about 1millimeter (according to my fat-track electronic calipers, one of the best investement I've ever made). Whether it's fat or just sub-cutaneous water I don't know, so then I lower my carbs and do a couple of days of extreme low carbing. I stop when I see my muscles getting a bit too flat for my taste, so then I do one huge carb up, and then repeat...

if 50 grams usuall keeps me in light ketosis, but I take ALA and that bumps to 250. That 200 grams at 4 per gram - how does that relate to fat loss, or does it??

Here's my theory: the majority of the 250 grams of carbs is pushed into your muscles by the ALA. This is emphasized even more by the enhanced insulin sensitivity that your muscles have after working out anyway. Very little glucose is left to replenish the liver glycogen store. The liver detects its glycogen levels dropping and starts producing ketones from fats. If you're eating a low fat diet, then most of the fats being converted to ketones by your liver will be your body's own fat deposits. Conceivably then, it should be possible using ALA, weight training and anabolics to simultaneously lose fat and grow muscles.Or at least spare a lot of muscle loss, since it will be kept fed and happy.

Again just a theory. Thoughts anyone?

I second that opinion.........

I second that opinion, I think. No I have been able to eat a normal diet, not low carbing combined with between 3-6 grams of ALA in divided doses, and stay in mild to moderate ketosis, according to the ketostix. My appetite has declined, my urine stinks like cow shit, and I find my sleeps are more peacefull. ALA is the shit.
 
Sice my post laast night I had an additional 115 gram of carbs at dinner thru snack b-4 bed.

NO ADDITIONAL ALA.

This am - slightly above "trace" amounts.

so slightly over 300 grams of carbs for me - 1 gram ALA - ketosis.
