ACNE - urgent help needed...

I agree with the b5, it really has helped me. I seem to have better results with the time-released kind, but BAC has the powder form that is really cost effective. As far as a cleanser, I use Clear & Smooth. It is mild and may take a little time for results but it is good stuff. And finally, make sure you are COMPLETELY dry before putting your shirt on.

ACNE TREATMENTS

Tanning Bed
Ultraviolet rays dry excess skin oil very effectively. Best results when used without dark-tanning lotions. Shower after use and apply an aloe-based lotion to noticeably oily areas. Avoid UV exposure while using medications that cause photosensitivity.

Swimming Pool
Chlorine dries skin oil and reduces bacteria. Shower immediately afterwards and apply an aloe-based lotion to reduce oil production.

Panthotenic Acid (Vitamin B5)
Large doses of panthotenic acid have proven to reduce acne. Take 2500 mg four (4) times a day (last dose at bedtime) until acne is under control, and then 1500 mg three (3) times a day for maintenance. Also available as a cream which should be applied 4-6 times a day.

Benzoyl Peroxide
Benzoyl peroxide slowly releases oxygen, which has an antibacterial effect. It also causes peeling and drying of skin, which helps to eliminate blackheads and whiteheads. First, wash the affected area of skin with medicated soap and water. Pat dry gently with a towel. Apply enough medicine to cover the affected area and rub in gently once or twice a day. If you have a fair complexion, start with a single daily application at bedtime. Keep the medicine away from eyes, nose, and mouth. Results are noticeable in 1 to several weeks. Side effects: burning, itching, scaling, swelling, or redness. Allergic reactions are not uncommon. Common brands: Clearasil, Noxzema, Oxy, Pan Oxyl.

Isotretinoin (Accutane) - prescription
Isotretinoin is a powerful drug used in the treatment of acne. Isotretinoin decreases the amount of oil produced by the skin's sebaceous (oil) glands. Four to five months of isotretinoin treatment usually leads to clearing of acne for one year or more after the medicine is stopped. Most other acne-controlling medicines are antibacterial agents, which are effective only if the medicine is used daily. Side effects (in order of percent reported): chapped lips, dry skin, mild nosebleeds, eye irritation, joint and muscle pains, temporary hair thinning, rash, intestinal symptoms, urinary symptoms, headache, decreased night vision, depression. Regular blood tests are necessary when you are taking isotretinoin because it can be hard on the liver. Women should not take Isotretinoin while pregnant, and should avoid becoming pregnant while using it. Isotretinoin can cause photosensitivity.

Retin-A - prescription
Unlike many over-the-counter acne treatments, Retin-A has the ability to get beneath the surface of your skin and work where acne begins. Retin-A loosens and expels acne plugs in the skin and prevents new lesions from forming. Apply before bed, about 30 minutes after washing the skin. Side effects: dryness, peeling, redness. Retin-A can cause photosensitivity.

i didn't see anyone mention pantothenic acid (b5) j/k

shit works...do you guys really take up to 10grams a day and maintain w/ 5grams? i have very good luck with 1gram a day...

Well since this got bumped again I'll reply again...

I just got back form the local health store and they had bottles of Pantothenic Acid (Vit b-5) 100 tabs @ 500mg ea. for $7.70
How's that for cheap!!!!!!!:)

I also picked up some Vitamin A softgels 100 caps @ 10,000 I.U. for $3.36 per bottle! -Same stuff that's in Acutane (thanks to the_only_sepe for that advice)

I'm set to go! Hopefully this will clear this crap up. Hell I haven't even been laid in a while because I was so scarred to take my shirt off. Thanks everyone. Spring break will be mine!

someone mentioned tea tree oil from one of those bath and body places at the mall, he said it dried his back out good, i will try it when i break out again, which will happen.

Hey I picked up some stuff at the local drug store about 3 weeks ago called Herbal logix. It is a spray that is for chest/back acne that contains a whole bunch of stuff like willow leaf bark which contains salcyclic acid, and vitamin k to help with scarring. I have been using everyday after showering, and it has worked wonders. I am in the middle of a cycle too. It was only $4.99, I would pick some up... It cant hurt

I would NOT do that.

Thats is NOT a gooD idea. Don't take very large doses of regular Vitamin A in an attempt to create a "cheap man's Accutane".

If you are going to do Accutane, then do Accutane. DON"T MEES AROUND, DO IT, AND DO IT THE RIGHT WAY (look for my post about it).

Do NOT flood your body with high Vtiamin A doses, this can create a LOT of problems (ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE ON A CYCLE FOR GOD'S SAKE).

Sure, take SOME Vit A, but not more than normally recommended.

Trust me, just do the other stuff, especially the B-5 and Liquidex (if ON) and you wil be fine.

Riker,

I was only going to run it at a high dose for 4-5 days, then use a normal, recommended daily dose afterwards.

I was kinda afraid of the negatives like you mentioned. That was the reason in doing so. Thanks for the heads-up on pointing that out though.

"Very large does of Vitamin A must used to get rid of acne once it starts. These doses are in the range of 300,000 units per day. This is a toxic dose and should be used for no more than four to six weeks. The Vitamin A that we sell may be unique on the market in its extremely high concentration, 5000 units per drop. Sixty drops equals 300,000 units and optimally should be divided into two daily doses of thirty drops each. Although the alternative protocol calls for four to six weeks of use, often results are achieved in as little as three or four days . If cracking or peeling occur at the corners of the month or fingertips, numbness around the mouth or face, or hair fallout the product should be stopped immediately. "

Try Doxycycline...it's a milder ant-biotic compared to Minocycline (which in my opinion sucks). I like Doxy alot. i have been Rx'ed both, and Minocyc fucked my stomach up. Just be sure to drink a full glass of water with your Doxy and you'll be money in no time! B-5 is good as well.

I also use Benzac AC 5% face wash and it's works well too, but you need an Rx for it. Good luck bro and I feel your pain...
