Working at Macy's for Christmas

This is my first Holiday season not working in almost a decade. I have a friend who recently quit his deskjob and he has similar feelings as me.
We both love the fact we work whenever the hell and we want/no commute and we both make more money doing what we do now and don't have a boss really (except people like needto) etc..
The one thing we both miss is the camaraderie of working and meeting new people. I hated most customers and many of my co-workers, but the ones I did like became some of my best friends. Since I throw parties as well now I miss the ability to network to bring more people to events as well. I may go back and work one or two days a week at a mall that is real close where my GF is about to start working at on days she works. Maybe not, I'll see.
I have a ton of free time right now and can do whatever I want. If I were single I'd be back at the mall in a heartbeat for obvious reasons working part time and not for the money :)

My wife worked the mall for the past 6 years and HATED it, crying, the customers, the hours, the floor sets, the drama, the people

She recently got a new job and loves it

I'd rather get neutered than work at the mall

Totally agree. Being a manager is a tough life. Cherry picking whatever shift you get and not having responsibility is far different. It is amazing the amount of work the companies have the people do at the store. The shit pay is kind of outrageous too. I had to bounce around to get decent money and worked incredibly hard. I have always hung out with some really beautiful women and people have always asked where I met them. Same answer every time. Any place you can pick up chicks without really trying and getting paid is a good gig for me. And the girls are always 21 if that. It's kind of like a teacher who has students who have a crush on them. You see them everyday and end up bullshitting with them just as much as working. I have thoughts of being a PT on the side as well. All the money I would make on these types of jobs I would blow on trips to Ibiza etc..

oh god yeah Lartinos, for 12 bucks an hour they can shove it up their arse. Seasonal is different, like you said, most are people in need of extra cash, bored, fat etc

woooooooo mama....the crowds are gettin fucking heinous.

The women's apparel actually seems to be slowing down a bit but the cosmetics counter going crazy. Getting shittons of men coming in now looking aimlessly at fragrances. I'm getting questions like "what do I get for my grandmother?" and "What are the perfumes for black women?" The worst is when they start trying to describe how they think it smelled when they think they remember smelling it once a year ago on a co-worker or an ex-girlfriend.

I wish I was on commission sales cuz these dudes are buying anything I recommend.

I've been floating between Ladies Apparel and the Clinique Cosmetics counter.

First time I've ever done the seasonal retail help thing. It's actually been really fun. The crowds got noticeably bigger this weekend, but still not insane. The regular employees tell me next week will be way worse though. The supervisor in Ladies is a bit of a hardass, but it's pretty much not gonna bother you when you know she's only going to be your boss for 4 weeks. Everyone else is really nice.

Ok great story.

I dunno. Everytime I think of macy's I think of miracle on 34th street. I'd love to work that store during xmas. Nostalgia.

Sounds fun for a while, I worked in retail (shoes) for a couple years, it was kinda fun because you could get good discounts and try all the stuff on whenever.
If I were you I'd come home each night smelling like six different perfumes, with sample makeup all over my face ;)

As the only nonwhite chica on-duty most of the time at the Macy's cosmetics counters they seem to think I'm the ethnic expert.
