I think a few people are confusing qualifying with discrimination here. Comparing a welfare mom to an employed mom is apples and oranges. Verified employment isn't guaranteed to continue, but a solid work history on an application will show steady income and that the person is responsible. Welfare isn't guaranteed to continue, and in my experience, the people that collect don't have good credit and aren't responsible. There are exceptions to the rule, but whatever. Would you want your kid to date or marry someone on welfare? No. I have a duplex that I rent out and since I want it to stay in good condition I try to rent it out to either old mormons or professionals with no kids. Kids will fuck a place up worse than pets will. To qualify them I pull credit and do a verbal employment verification. Simple as that. Just because you want the place doesn't mean you get it. It's still my investment.

Because IMHO "a joke" about beating a woman is about as funny as "a joke" about lynching a nigger. There are far more women being beaten to death TO THIS DAY ON A DAILY BASIS then there are "niggers being lynched." Right? So why THE HELL is a joke about beating a woman anymore funny than the *antiquated* practise of hanging a person of color, specifically of African decent from a tree? I mean, there is a difference between a "nigger" and "a black person"... isn't there? Otherwise that boy wouldn't have been strung up in that tree to begin with.

Interestingly enough, you again proved my point that WOMEN are the last group where society will still accept degrading/violent behavior directed towards them, tolerated by A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE *just because it is shrouded in what some call humor* while other groups are *somewhat protected* regardless.

You can't speak out of both sides of your mouth. You've made it abundantly clear (as is your right) that you find jokes about beating women to be funny.

Either "nigger jokes" are funny or they aren't. Which is it? What about "wetback and spic jokes"? Or what about the jokes over incinerating "kikes"? Are you aware of THE FACT that there are still people living today that remember seeing signs posted on public beaches stating, "No Dogs, No Niggers, No Jews". I have a hard time believing that anyone who saw these things would find ANY joke about "blaques or jews" to be remotely entertaining as I personally know many of these older adults.

Or are there certain groups that are *less* or *more* fun to make fun of?

And yes, I am fully aware that there are certain jokes that are funny in certain situations. But I can't think of ONE SITUATION where it is either appropriate or funny to make fun of a woman being beaten or degraded, yet so many still seem to think that it's ok.

Why do YOU THINK that is. Please help me to understand. Maybe I am missing something.

I am telling you that I find NONE of this funny. I think that is fairly simple.

I am still waiting for you to tell me why it is that the antiquated practise of lynching men of African decent (that nobody does anymore, haven't for a long ass time) is somehow UNfunny to you but the fact that many MANY women get beaten to death every damned day to this day is funny.

So far it seems that those who have been landlords/self-employed or who have been very closely related to them have opinions that differ regarding what "the law" deems right/wrong.

I've been a landlord in the past and from my experience EVERY RENTER sucks. I had problems with all kinds of people. I had a 3 bed room 2 bath house with pool in Fort Lauderdale that I rented furnished. (note: credit checks were run on ALL tenants)

First renters were a couple of single, hetero white guys. They paid their rent on time but pulled a midnight move and stole all the good pieces of furniture and carpets.

I thought I wised up and next rented the house (this time unfurnished; what remained after the 'boys' moved out went into storage) to a middle aged, ETHNIC couple. Both were highly educated academics and I figured stable. Well this pair decided to stop paying rent and tried to sue me. ARRGGGHH!!! Had to go to court, etc. They lost and had to pay their rent but moved out instead.

So now I thought, who can I rent to? So, I chose a gay couple. In all my dealings I never saw a gay couple trash an apartment. At least none of the people I know that rented trashed their home. Well, these guys were just as bad as every one else. They let their dog shit on the carpets. I fucking couldn't believe it!! How do people live like that? They turned my lovely home into a toilet. (It was really bad, not a one time oops! but used the floor as the designated dog poop place).

No renewal on their lease. Once they were gone i listed and sold the house.

I WILL NEVER BE A LANDLORD AGAIN
