Some More Incline PR's On The Way To 405

Hey everyone! Just wanted to post up some PR's I hit today on the incline. I hit 275x13.5 reps and 375 for a single. Looks like my incline has exceeded my bench. But at the same time, I had a spotter with is hands lightly against the bar on the 375, and he claims he applied zero pressure and it was 100% me. Id consider it pretty legit, but Im real strict about those things. Its good enough to add to my signature stats though. Heres the routine, and description of the lifts from my journal:

7-4-04 Sunday Upper Chest,Speed Bench,Shoulders and Rear Delts (11 mins Cardio) (SLAUGHTERED THAT SHIT!!)

Today was a real powerful incline workout. Maybe I was fired up by a dispute at the gas station with a sheriff. For some reason 365 was feather light today. I also threw in 11 mins of cardio on the stepper for the fuck of it. I may start doing 10 minute cardio sessions a few times a week just to try it out and see what happens. I never do any cardio aside from swimming very rarely, and when I do it will be listed in my journal. I started with the incline bench. I did 2 warm-up sets with 135 and 225. Then I hit 275 for 13.5 reps. Which is a 3/4 rep PR. I came close to 13 reps recently. Next I hit 315x6, which is my best ever, though not a record. Then I hit a very light 335x2 which is also close to my previous best. Now heres where things started to get a little violent. I went straight to 365 next, and it just flew off my chest with ease. So that was already a PR. My triceps were still pretty sore too, and chest was even a little sore. I had told the spotter not to touch the bar, but he kept his hands very close to the bar anyway. His hands did touch it, but it flew up so fast, he says he didnt even get a chance to touch the bar. The hands near the bar also gives a huge mental boost. Im real strict though, and wont be fully satisfied until I get it completely clean. Then since 365 was so light I shot up to 375. I used the same spotter, and though his hands did touch the bar, it flew up real easy. He claims he applied no pressure whatsover and said it was 100% legit. Im pretty happy with that, though in my mind its never 100% unless theres no hands within sight. This shows me my strength is becoming pretty good. If this is legit, then my incline has just exceeded my flat bench by 5lbs. But then again, if I benched with that extra confidence (having the hands around) my bench would likely shoot up as well! Then I attempted 385 with the spotters hands on the bar and he claims he gave me 5lbs assistance only, but still skepticle of course. Then I said fuck it and slapped 4 plates on there and did an assisted rep with 405 just to see how it felt. Went up nice, and spotter claims he assisted very little, and only at the upper part of the lift. Guess its good enough to add 375 to my stats in my signature, but in my mind I still have to hit those weights with no hands in sight. Was cool though, this powerlifter dude who used to bench 475 raw was real impressed, said hes never seen anyone do that much on the incline. So it felt good to have a strong day again. Then I went back down again, and ended the routine with a little bit of shoulders, speed bench, rear delts and some cardio. Heres the routine:

ThanX for the encouragement brother!! Much appreciated!!

With that kind of weight on bench at your size I would consider entering a bench competition................your pressing more than 2xs your body weight. Nice job bro!

thats a huge beast

you should be good for 405 at least if you focus on flat for a month or so bro

ThanX for the encouragement brother!! Still havent hit 380 (currently 2X bodyweight) completely unassisted yet. Alot of it is mental though. Im pretty confident that the strength is there, and I should be able to hit 405 clean this year. I could never use the bench shirt that I have. Have no idea how to really use one. I could compete without one, but Im not sure there are many raw competitions. Also I dont bench with a pause. So Id have to train for that specifically and would definately have to cut the weight down some. The idea of a trophy doesnt interest me. Id do it if it paid though. One competition was giving away these medevil swords, Id compete for that. haha Ill be happy just to get some pics and video of the really nice lifts eventually. When I do Ill post them all up on here. I want 405 on the benches before I do that though. When I hit 550-600 on the deadlift Ill likely get some footage of that too. Also I dont know of many powerlifting competitions, let alone benching only competitions in my area. My training partner just hit 410 on the flat bench at 185. Hes 5'6-5'7 though. He does it with his ass way off the bench, so not sure if it counts for as much. Still impressive to see that weight go up. Keep KILLING that shit!!ThanX again brother!!

ThanX for the encouragement brother!! You inspire the FUCK out of me yourself!! Ill be happy to get 405 this year! My progress is often very slow, but it is solid. The gains creep up slow, but they stay (Aslong as Im consistant,as Ive been). Sometimes Ill hit big jumps, but rarely on the benches. Getting 405 with hands around the bar and a spotter telling me "I gave you no assistance" would not be hard to accomplish at this point, using an honest spotter. But at the same time, that mental boost of having the hands there, is something I need to overcome to consider myself truly hitting 405. Also, I can never truly know whats going on when hands touch that bar. 5-10lbs would be very easy to assist on a bar, Im guessing. Or even stabilize if the hands dont apply pressure. Also Ive seen that 45lb plates can differ from 1-3lbs in weight, usually being lighter (or atleast with the 3 plates I weighed). With 8 45's on the bar that leaves room for 16 or more Lbs less then 405. I only weighed a few plates though, after reading about this. Supposedly gym plates arent manufactured too strictly weight wise. Ill be real satisfied to reach that long awaited goal of 405 though (4 plates a side, good enough). Benching has never been a specialty of mine. When I started lifting at 14 I couldnt even bench the 45lb bar without a spot. So when I hit 405 thats 9X my original strength on that lift. One dude at my gym who claims a 575 raw bench, at one point (I trained with him a while back) says I have no chance at the bench, cuz of my long arms. Im not a bench specialist though, so itll be fucking nice to hit 405 for reps, and my goals will always be extremely high regardless of the seeming limitations. ThanX again for the constant encouragement brother!! Keep KILLING that shit yourself!! Hows the deadlifting been? 588 is some crazy shit!!

Beast,
You have long arms too? It sucks dont it! Im in the same boat, because Im tall I have long fuckin arms and so my bench is week for my size. Im currently 245 @ 9% and I bench a 3 rep max of 335 on flat and 315 on incline. That is off cycle, on there is about a 30-40 lb increase but I dont count that since its only because of the gear. Anyway nice to see someone kickin ass on bench even with obsticals.

ThanX brother!! Im only about 5'8, but it seems my arms are pretty long, which I believe helps on the deadlifts, especially my trademark lift, the "beast lift". Thats some sick conditioning brother!! Looking Very impressive in the avatar! Im trying to stay natural as long as possible, maybe even avoid it all together. Eventually I may have to use some gear to make any progress however, but I believe I still have a good deal of natural potential, though its going to be a bitch to bring it all out. My form on the incline is a bit crazy too, as Ive mentioned before. Hopefully Ill get some video up eventually! ThanX again brother!!

Ill have to match you in the next couple of weeks. I cant let you get ahead in this battle to 405, lol.
One more week of heavy flat barbell and incline dbs.
