Allright well im allready into weight lifting and stuff like that but I also want to add in some fighting stuff so if I ever am in danger I will be able to really defend myself or others I care about. Has anyone ever done San Shou its like a millitary based art that I have gone to that is really cool and the instructor is pretty cool too. Other arts that are offered as clubs here are....

Kuk Sool
Capoeira
Tai Chi
Goju Ryu Karate
And reg. boxing

THey are all free by the way At a first glance I was thinking to just do boxing but then I realized I dont really want to do a lot of conditiong. And im sure a guy that uses his feet could kick a guys ass that just uses his hands..... so what are your opinions? Ive allready got a very good weightlifting regimen.

Out of all those Id pick the regular boxing, part of being good at anything is conditioning. the best thing you can do is (imo) be as well rounded as you can. that means striking as well as grappling, boxing is an excellent striking art and can ussually hold its own unless it goes to the ground, thats when BJJ or CSW come into play.

So is san Shou bad?

I have no idea what san Shou is to be honest. but from what I do know about training is the arts that do dynamic training are the best because you spar/roll at 100% not just go through the motion (static training) Dynamic training prepares you for real situations. Go and watch the classes, see which classes have actual live goes or sparring, those are the guys that kick ass
p.s. I looked up San shou and it looks like very good art to train in. if you have that available to then by all means go for it.

yea they have sparring and u wear pads and stuff and they do hit. It is some millitary based thing so it teaches u how to defend against knifes and guns and stuff like that as well as kill moves lol. Can you actually use kicks in street fights? haha

How many street fights do you know of that they sit down and discuss the rules? Kick him and kick him hard, some times all it takes is one good Muay thai kick to the guys leg and he,ll be limping and know its over

boxing + wrestling is one of the best combos for street fighting, muay thai and BJJ is good too. The best training for street fighting would probly be knees and elbows from Muay thai + boxing + wrestling + chokes, subs and sweeps from BJJ + dirty and weapon fighting from Krav maga or systema

And im sure a guy that uses his feet could kick a guys ass that just uses his hands
you watch too many jackie chan and jet li movies

Kicks are ultimate destroyers in close range, its all in the application. aim for the knees, and if they are closer move to chops or closer-elbows. bridging the gap should involve attacking the enemys knee, if you miss you pull through to very close range arm skills.

CQB is awesome. military. kill moves? hell yes, throat impacts.

He's somewhat right...

Im more of a fan of kicks(i guess thats because im better with my feet than hands) but you have to find a balance, you cant be an all kicker like in the movies, but theres nothing wrong with throwing alot of kicks as long as there sure kicks(the ones you know you'll land) and not some off the wall tornado kick...

I can say from experiance kicks can be very effective on the street, your opponent will be surprised(especially if you live down south with the rednecks like i do) who expects someone to throw a kick on a fight? its usally two people throwing heymakers..

Unless its two martial artist fighting your pretty safe to use alot of kicks as long as your fast and dont drop your hands like most people do when they kick..

Sorry to drag on a whole post about kicks but when i get to talking about something it gets big before i relize it!

Alex.
