training kids under 12

Need some help on links to or studies that come right out and say
that lifting is bad for kids say under the age of 10 to 12
"boys or girls". I have done a ton of searching and can not
find any real info that backs this up. Is it one of those
old myths that was started in the 50's and 60's and everyone
just takes it as hear say. Any links would be a great help.
Would also love to find links that may back up that excrises and lifting is good for the youth. I will check out all links posted
any help at all no matter how small the info will help.

thanks,

Prime,
part of the reason you can't find anything to prove these theories, is there reall yaren't any studies (to the best of my knowledge) that prove this. The only advice i can give is to look at the maturity of the child you are thinking of training. To give you an example I began training at the age of 12. Mind you, by that age i was already about 5'9 and weighed around 180 pounds. another good rule is, if you are going to weight train a child, make sure they use a weight they can handle for at least 8 reps. Anything under that and you are going to danger the structural integrity of their skeletal system.

Thanks guys I posted this on elite select as well and Willyumyum
helped out with these links. Also thanks to everyone for your help.
We are putting together a pretty nice presentation with the benfits of controled weight lifting and youth.

These might help, although I don't know that they are "against" weight training for yutes (lol - my cousin vinny joke (movie)... sorry..):

I'll try to find more if those don't help some, I gotta run out and do some stuff now though... I hope those DO help though...

under 12 I would just have em get good and pushups, dips and pullups. I cant see a pre-teen trying to push around iron. <My $.02. Lots of gains to be had with bodyweight lifting...

Kids that age should be climbing trees, eating ice cream and looking at their first Playboys. Why not just let them be kids? They've got their entire adult life for diet and excercise.
