A couple of questions for ya and a couple of predictions as well.....
Was your doc a surgeon or a regular doc who referred you to a surgeon?
Did you have an MRI that showed a bulging/ruptured disc? Did you have any hand or leg numbness or more importantly weakness or loss of bladder control?
You did the right thing and you did what i tell my patients to do, but few listen. The only indications for a laminectomy and/or discectomy is bowel or bladder incontinence, progressing weakness, and intractable pain not responsive to physical therapy. The last thing is obviously in your control.
About surgeons....they are hammers, and to a hammer everything looks like a nail.
Last thing alot of you dont know is that bulging discs will regress and go back to their normal size in alot of cases where the patient stays active and follows a PT regimen. If i took 10 people off the street WITHOUT any complaints of back pain, 3 of them would have a bulging disc. I predict if you took another MRI of your back, the disc would be almost normal if not normal. This isnt just me spouting off my mouth, there are studies to prove it.
Good story of you taking control of your life and getting off your ass.
