This is my AS story--Very long, but I think it's worth it.

Do you think in the early 90's when steroids were made a schedule III drug, they cared about people like you. Or do you think they cared more about there own personal vote count.

The fucking shame about this post is that your doctor was so uneducated that he never even considered putting you on a cycle. He felt it would be less risk for back surgery than it would be for anabolics.

I would love to see his surgery stats vs. your accomplishments. I would love to show this story to my judge at sentencing along with my story.

BUT I REALLY DONT THINK THEY CARE.

Congradulations Bros. keep up the good work and be careful with the squats. That hurts my back just thinking about it.

Don't know about your legal situation, but good luck with it. And I share your sentiments about doc's that don't seem to know shit about as, all they seem to picture is ROID RAGE.

Was your doc a surgeon or a regular doc who referred you to a surgeon?

I had three docs altogether, my regular guy, the ortho dude he brought in, and my chiro. Actually, my chiro is the only one who offered any guidance once I had made up my mind. I still use him.

Did you have an MRI that showed a bulging/ruptured disc? Did you have any hand or leg numbness or more importantly weakness or loss of bladder control?

I had an MRI that showed disk ruptured to the right side of L5(?). My right leg had a numb/prickly sensation down my glute to my knee. And a dull pain mostly in the upper part of my glute and lower part of my back. Yea, I had bladder control problems...figured that was the beer though.

Last thing alot of you dont know is that bulging discs will regress and go back to their normal size in alot of cases where the patient stays active and follows a PT regimen.

That I didn't know, thanks for that info.

Good story of you taking control of your life and getting off your ass.

That is exactly what it always boils down too. I'm not a special case, everyone can take control of their lives.

Thanks to everone

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback and support!

Trevdog You got hit by a car? Damn man, that sounds bad to me. But I guess my situation was worse cause it was caused by my own dumb-ass. At least some other dumb-ass did you in:D

Gmaninsane I have not been back to the docs except for the chiro. Maybe someday another MRI just to see what is going on back there.

NauticaTrue that, amen, and whatever else people say these days to show support. I get really pissed with the 'steroids will kill you' mentallity. At least with AS we know what it does to you. Any idea what eating (X)lbs. of that crap that GNC sells will do to you long term? Most of those 'safe' products have no testing at all.

I love stories like this. They are truly inspirational. As an example I have seen myself, we have a guy that used to work out at the same gym I do who had a prosthetic leg....and he did Smith machine squats!!! This guy wasnt as big as I was, but he was in great shape. Also, you never heard him complain or say he couldn't do something...he just did it. Heavy only, good luck w/ your continuing improvements.

This post is so great I had to sign up. It seems quite a few people have had hard times. I was hurt a couple of years ago. I lost about 3" of bone in my right femur and had alot of tissue damage. They put my leg back together with a screw plate. Ive had 2 bone graft surgerys. The first one failed. The second one seems to be going ok.

I have always enjoyed lifting, but was not as dedicated as I should have been. As soon as I was able I started working out as home to get my strength back. Then I joined a local gym. I've been going 4 - 5 days a week. Ive put on about 10 lbs in a little over a year. I look better I feel better. My ortho doc is also involved in sports med. On my next appt. I'm going to ask him about AS to see if can help me get my leg strength back. I don't know much about AS I hope I can learn more from this board.

About a month ago my doc more or less cut me loose so I started hitting my legs hard and my right leg is getting stronger. the scar tissue hurts like hell, but thats just the way it is. It's good to know I'm not alone, and hopefully with hard work we all will be healed.
