I always start out with an empty bar and practice going lower carefully. I don't go deep until my hips and knees and spine are warmed up and loose. Usually about three sets of five with the bar with a little stretching between.

Getting on in years, I've found this to make the difference for getting a good squat workout. I use overhead squat to warm up because it forces you to go down with correct posture with your weight remaining on your heels. That additional reinforcement gets me focused right from my first set.

ol Reading this, it sounds like I need all the help I can get. I guess I've finally realized some of my limitations.
