The end (war thread)

We have gone this way since the late 60s and it is steadily progressing, the internal battle in the US between the secular progressives and the neo-cons will bring us down.

I think it will be after we are gone, however it is likely that those of us that follow these things will watch it before our eyes.

This spiral may be stopped by a major terrorist act beyond the pale. This act will probably occur in the next ten years. However, I don't think it will be nuclear but biological. God help us all when it does happen.

Yes I agree, however I am shocked to this day how fast the memory of 9/11 has faded outside the North East. Some good thinkers suggest that it may take a number of major events to reinforce this, not only one unfortunately.

Like tonite, I drove over the Tobin Bridge (Boston) which goes over all the oil tanks and tankers. I hurry over it every time. Grew up with a mile of enormous LNG tanks, back then we feared fire, now a simple RPG would finish us.

I live in a tanker port city, and near a larger oil tanker city, Mobile. Anyone that lives in a large cargo container city should be in deep fear for their safety. Places like Norfolk and Jacksonville are extremely prone to attack. Detonate a 5kt (small) nuke in Norfolk's Shipping Terminal and its close proximity to Norfolk Naval Base could cripple the US Navy, not to mention kill 50,000-100,000 people in Norfolk, Portsmouth and Hampton. Jacksonville's terminal is about 10 miles from the population center so the damage wouldn't be as severe.

I guess my point is that Americans are blissfully unaware of the extreme danger we are in. Is it that they are uninformed or that they would rather stick their head in the sand and hope the problems dematerialize?

Yup, they think everyone has the same secular beliefs that they have and are not willing to die for a cause. Thus, they believe negotiation will win the day.

Wrong, Islam scares the living shit out of me, they act in ways in the name of Allah that is beyond reason.

BTW, just so you know I daily say good morning to a memorial picture of a woman and her lil baby that died on a local flight on 9/11...we had a bunch here that were going to LA.

so a major terrorist attack would save us??

and the fall of the roman empire was pretty simplistic.....corruption and greed. All a major terrrorist attack would do is give the federal government an excuse to become more powerful. We weren't supposed to have a fed to begin with....it was all supposed to be individual states that decided THEMSELVES how much money to give to the "small" union or what we now call federal government.

I believe that same cynicism, which is inherent in secular humanism will be the downfall of Western civilization. To believe in nothing, not even an ideal, is dangerous in that it prevents us from uniting under a common banner. What that banner is, call it freedom of thought, if you will, doesn't matter. If our opponent wishes to destroy us by whatever means necessary, no manner of capitulation will aid our cause. In fact, capitulation in any form is shown as weakness and strengthens the resolve of those who wish us ill.

If nothing else, fight for the banner of decadence of the West, For if Militant Islam wins the day, our little party ends.

that cynicism which you attribute to secular humanism is right on the mark........uncle sam has never given me a worthy cause to go and die for him....period. He lies to us, he fucks us, he takes our money and snorts cocaine with it.......hard to unite under that one, unless of course we're brainwashed. But the uber point is that Uncle Sams coke habit (so to speak) is what this whole shit is about in the first place. Tis why I'm off to Canada shortly. But you are absolutely right in that we almost have no choice but to do war with them......they will likely not be sated until they dominate the planet....it's their religion. So go ahead and nuke em....I'll be in canada huffing that terrible clean air.

Historians have never been able to agree on the cause of the fall of the Roman empire, the death of genghis Khan, the defeat in Vietnam etc so I'm interested what the historians of EF think about it

I think the defeat in vietnam is one that historians can agree on...

It's our "don't fix it until it's completely broken" attitude. We won't reach-out again and try to be proactive until a major terrorist attack happens.

Combine this attitude with our "piling-on" technique and you paralyze the political system. People love to second-quess and Monday-morning quarterback political decisions. Bill Clinton handled it perfectly -- play president, get a blowjob or two, have fun with cigars, and let the next guy deal with the threat.

I've been saying this for a while now.

There will come a day when a major attack on US soil will cause it to collapse. People panic very easily and that is all it will take for chaos to ensue.

US currency will be worthless. Instead people will be fighting and killing over food and other necessities.

I have been slowly preparing for such an event. Have you? or are you one of those who don't think it will ever happen because your governement has all the answers?
