I've been saying this for a while now.

There will come a day when a major attack on US soil will cause it to collapse. People panic very easily and that is all it will take for chaos to ensue.

US currency will be worthless. Instead people will be fighting and killing over food and other necessities.

I have been slowly preparing for such an event. Have you? or are you one of those who don't think it will ever happen because your governement has all the answers?

I don't know if it will collapse us though. My best guess is an Iranian or NK nuke (possibly an old ruskie one too) being snuck-into a US port. Probably lose between 1M and 2.5M people.

The biological angle is always a possibility too, but that's tougher to pull-off. We're overdue for a pandemic anyway (i.e. a SARS or bird-flu type thing) so maybe that will get to us first.

We should be having a national debate about proactive versus reactive foreign policy. Instead, we'll waste the next few years with Congressional inquiries regarding Dick Cheney and bitching about Iraq.

I am in the Massachusetts Medical Reserve corps. They started recruiting aggressively about two years ago. I am not saying we are ready as a Nation, however we are light years ahead of where we were on 9/11.

Here is the agenda of our last course, we have to take a ton of them.

PURPOSE: This one-day course is designed to provide Emergency Responders baseline Awareness Level knowledge of Weapons of Mass Destruction, and the challenges created when an incident of WMD occurs.

MODULES:
• Prevention & Deterrence
• Chemical Agents
• Biological Agents
• Radiological Agents
• Explosive Devices

AUDIENCE: Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management Agencies,
Fire Services, Hazardous Material (Hazmat) Teams, Department of Public Works, Government Administrative Personnel, Public Safety Communications, and Department of Public Health.

This spiral may be stopped by a major terrorist act beyond the pale. This act will probably occur in the next ten years. However, I don't think it will be nuclear but biological. God help us all when it does happen.

Yes I agree, however I am shocked to this day how fast the memory of 9/11 has faded outside the North East. Some good thinkers suggest that it may take a number of major events to reinforce this, not only one unfortunately.

Like tonite, I drove over the Tobin Bridge (Boston) which goes over all the oil tanks and tankers. I hurry over it every time. Grew up with a mile of enormous LNG tanks, back then we feared fire, now a simple RPG would finish us.

not at all, fear is worrying about things that probably wont' happen. taking swift action is for those that know it will happen, just when is the question.

Biological agents are readily transportable, more easily concealed and take time to disperse. You can infect one aircraft with a severe flu strain for example, and it would take a couple weeks to develop into an endemic. I'm not speaking from a medical standpoint but a mathematical one. It's a standard logarithmic function. The culprit can make a clean getaway without anyone even knowing that a WMD has been used.

The reason I suspect that a biological agent will be used before a nuclear one is that the agents are more readily available to those that wish us harm. You can build a nuclear weapon rather easily, but creating the fuel requires sophistication not currently accessible to terrorists. That is why preventing Iran from creating as much nuclear fuel and doping it to much higher levels than standard power plant fuel is essential to our National interests.

We have been talking a lot about biologic and chemical weapons, especially since the Sarin attack in Japan but nothing really ever happens (just false anthrax alerts in 01)
