Snatch/OH Squat

I just started doing this last week and it feels very awkward. My rear delts don't seem to like it much, not really painful just feels unnatural. Balance is a real issue on the squat.

Any one have some accessory lifts to help or some technique tips? Or will my muscles just adapt after a few weeks?

Are you talking about doing squats?

I usually put my index fingers on the marker line on barbell. This creates a place of rest on the back of your shoulders, slide the bar until you feel it. Keep the bar off neck..

I'm talking about Overhead Squats where you hold the bar overhead while squatting, also done at the end of a Snatch.

Where to start....

a few tips:

1. imagine you are pulling the bar apart.
2. do reps witha broom stick, and lots of them. When I started do ing Oly lifts my coach had me doing 100+ OH Squats w/ a broom stick every day.
3. Learn how to do shouldr-dislocates (also with a broom stick)

My Snatch day has OH Squats in it, and I train them every week. My progression goes like this

stick x 10
bar x10
95 x5 x2
135 x3 x2
155 x3
185 x2
225 x2 x5

Chicks always seem to have great squat form. I'm trying to get my girl in the gym. I feel she would be the same way.

Sorry bout the hijack...

Nice thread. I don't oly lift, but I love OHS. Very killer exercise. Nothing beats beats OHS for shoulder stability and abdm strength.

I found both lifts awkward when I first started doing them, esp. overhead squats.

You can only analyze so much. Then it's just practise and more practise until you find the groove.

It gets easier and easier each workout. I've also recently started doing the OHS
