FUCKING FUCK FUCK FUCKING CUNT!!!!!!

So I'm week 4.5 of deca and sust. 500 sust and just bumped the deca from 200 to 400. Being 4.5 weeks in I was primed for magic time. Up at least .75" everywhere. Quads back to almost 30".

So last friday is Press day. Chest, military, tri's. I go through my usual warm-up. I do it 1-2x ED anyways. But I always do it right before chest. I do Joe defranco's upper body stretch routine. (foam roller, bands ect)
Then I go to the gym and do 2 sets of 30 reps on the pec dec with like 60 lbs. On to Flat DB press. 15-20 rep sets with 30, 35, 40 lb DB's to thouroughly warm up.
Then I do 60 x 15 reps, 70 x 15, then on rep 8 with 80's i feel pain in my left shoulder as i start to push up. I power through the rep. Try the next rep and no way. No snapping or popping noises though.
I stretch out for a few minutes and decide to try some light flys. Maybe it was a freak thing. Grab the 30's and on the 3rd rep I gotta drop em. So ok one more time....maybe its the Flat angle not agreeing with me today. Lets try incline. Rep 1, 2, 3....FUCK!!!!!! Pain still. Yes I was a child....I threw the DB's at the rack then put them back where they were supposed to be. Walking out of the Gym pissed off beyond belief.
I got home and immediatley iced it. After a few minutes I grabbed the top of a door to stretch. Then let the stretch down then raised my arm back up and HOLY SHIT! Wicked sharp pain in my side delt. Then I'm on the phone with my wife explaining it to her and raise my arm and it happens again.
I go take a shower use the brush with both hands behind my back and shit and it seems ok. Dry off with towel behind my back in the usual sawing motion and seemed ok. Then reached to hang up the towel and WHAM! again.
The 1600mg of motrin I took kicked in and it was so so. Woke up in my recliner later and it had worn off and my whole arm ached down to the back of my hand. Nice.
Got a last minute apt. With my deep tissue massage girl and she spent 1.25hrs on just that shoulder. SHe said she was pretty sure it wasnt a tear. It was coming from where the bicep tendon ties in with the pec and delt. Acromion(or whatever it is) process too. I was able to move my shoulder pain free after she was done. But I'm still taking off til monday for a total of 10 days. Then i'm gonna go real light and high reps when I go back. (i mean 20's, 25's, 30's ect. ) working up slowly. If theres any pain I'm gonna go see my ortho and get an MRI.
This was friday it happened. Deep tissue saturday. I'm still sore from the deep tissue. But my shoulder has been cracking here and there (like a tree branch). Aches in the back of my elbow, top of my forearm, and back of my hand. Whatever I did I traumatized it a bit apparently. Back side of my side delt aches too.
I'm sooooooooo Pissed!!!!!!

sad to hear bro. I damaged mine in early may and am just strarting to show recovery. I still am limited what I can do. Go start some physio a soon as you can to shorten the time. I am having A.R.T done on it and found everything till now was just a mask or only took it to a slight healing degree but a.r.t seems to be increasing the healing process quicker.

hope yours is nothing serious.

It could be your labrum hopefully! You can recover in 6 weeks I torn mine before. If it's the cuff you will lose range of motion. But you can recover in about 3 -4 months with a cuff tear. But it's the bicep tendon "God forbid", your truly fucked!

Damn bro. Sounds like an impingement. I had the same thing a while back. Does the back of your arm and your ring and little finger fo numb? I hope you heal up soon. Especially since you're on cycle.

I'm having some issues with my delt/chest tie in on my left side. I trained chest on monday and I've decided to skip shoulders this week to give it a rest.

My first thought was a small tear or impingement. They have almost identical symptoms. I also thought labrum too. But I really dont think its labrum based on how I feel now and how it felt then.
Theres nothing wrong with the biceps tendon. Everything just seems to have gotten really tight. I actually just woke up and it seems (only been up for 30 min) to feel alot better today. Omega told me he had the exact same thing happen to him a short time ago and he took 10 days off and he was G2G. So I'm crossing my fingers. My appetite has gone to shit since this happened too. I feel like the incredible shrinking man.
If there is pain once i try again then I'm going to drop the deca and drop the sust to 250wk for a month to make sure the deca is good and gone. Then do a heavy PCT.

Nope. No numbness. It my shoulder was sore for a few days before this happened. I assumed it was just getting used to going heavy again since its been a while.

I sooooo fucking hate to get injured. Heal fast bro and best luck to you!

Thanks bro. As I said, I've been awake for longer now and am at work using my shoulder (but not pressing things:biggrin:) and it feels about 10 times better than it did yesterday. Maybe I'm over the first hump.
I have another accupressure/deep tissue in 3 hrs and accupuncture in the morning too. So keeping fingers crossed.

I'm extremely in tune with my body. But when I do try to do chest again after my 10 day break. Regardless of all the rest, deep tissue massage and accupuncture, if theres a small tear there, no matter how good it feels, I'm gonna feel it immediatley as soon as I put enough load on it right?
Meaning if its there, its there. Its not going to "act" not torn for a bit before showing up again right?

You sure should, remember to keep it mobile lots of stretching so not to get any scar tissue build up. That's always the killer .
Good thing healthy active muscle heals quickly

if it werent for chiropractors my shoulders would have stopped me from working out completely im guessing.

I feel the same about my deep tissue massage therapist and my shoulders and elbows.

What you said though reminds me of my former doctor(15 years ago). I was 21, doing Arnold press for shoulders with too much weight and arched my back. Snap. Back went way out. I could feel it grinding like it was broken when i moved.
I went to see the doc and he gave me ofcourse 800mg motrin. Said rest, no working out. I said..."what about a chiropractor" he said........ " go see one I guess....if yo believe all that hocus pocus" !!!!!!!!!!!! WOW.... Needless to say that was my last apt. ever with him. Obviously I went to the chiro cause I would have been fucked if I didnt.

yeah 10 days`, but the first 2 weeks back have to be VERY careful

i did a back and chest day and pull both sides

moving arm literally made me tear up for 4-5 days

moving arm literally made me tear up for 4-5 days

Ahhh.....see....I dont have that kind of pain. I got the initial pain during the set which wasnt sharp. Then a few sharp jabs that night and one the next morning. Other than that I got alot of ache.
I just got done with my deep tissue session 10 minutes ago. She said everything felt alot better. When she went to do my other shoulder I found that I had alot of the same pain in that side too. Nothing sharp, but alot of soreness in the same spots as the "injured" side. I am almost thinking it was both shoulders tightening up from starting to lift heavier (after being only back for 5 weeks after 6 mos off) and just the left shoulder gave me the "stop" signal first. But I could definatley feel the same kind of shit going on in my right shoulder when she got real deep. That makes me hopefull that its not a tear being that both sides kinda had the same thing going on.

yes it was severe

but I like these occurrences they remind me that the body is like a sports car

its performs but you have to treat it with the right input

I'm a PT and have some general advice for you:
1. with ANY shoulder injury, avoid exercises past shoulder level..technically the shoulder joint has the least amount of space for the tendon to glide between the bony structures anywhere past 70 degrees.

2. ice takes 20 minutes to penetrate a big thick shoulder like yours..Either give it time and deal with the throbbing, aching, and then numbness or dont bother at all.
3. posture: sounds stupid but this is very important. If you slouch for most of your day, it puts your shoulders in a rounded position and makes your shoulder function in a less than optimal position..so sit up tall and dont round your shoulders. ...you're supposed to imagine pinching something between your shoulder blades. that stands you upright.
4. drop the weight while you are healing. even though you CAN do it, doesn't mean you should. back off a little...
5. which exercises to keep and which to lose: drop any exercise that is overhead for now. If you havent been stretching, start stretching the shoulders...I'll post a good rotator cuff stretch as a new thread. I can guarantee if you're a thick guy used to lifting heavy, its tight.

Thanks for the good info bro. My posture is good and i'm always very concious of it. I do slouch way down in the couch sometimes with my laptop though.
Whenever I ice anything I always leave the ice on til the cold is gone. Usually 30 minutes. But I also have one of those coolers with the pump inside that feeds lines hooked to cooling pads. I got it post knee surgery. I stopped icing it after 2 times the night it happened cause the ice seemed to make it worse.
I havnt been stretching because good or bad I was waiting for the initial "shock" so to speak to wear off. It doesnt feel tight now It feels pretty normal except I still have a sore spot on the back side of my side delt. That wasnt where all the initial pain and shit was, but its starting to worry me. I have this feeling that maybe I tore that spot slightly and in reaction the mess I had on the front side happened.
If you stand on my side and look at my left shoulder as a clock, the initial sharp pain and issue was at 11:00 (towards the front) It initially ached allover the joint. But now since saturday afternoon the sore spot has been at the 2:00 position. Right in the spot thats supposed to have pain every damn time I read about rotator tears.

Burn if you don't have a Chiro I would check one out.

Deep tissue is fantastic and in combination with chiro is amazing as the broken up scar tissue and relaxed muscles only help with an adjusted spine taking.

I had shoulder impingement before and the root cause was my back. You can get pain damn near anywhere in your body and often trace it back to the spine.

I've thrown my hip out of wack and didn't know for 2 months until it got so bad I felt like I was walking with a twisted back. Chiro adjusted my hip nearly a 1/4" the first time and it never popped out again. I can only imagine the issues that would have caused if I had never seen a chiro because I'm pretty sure nothing else woulda popped my hip back.

So anyhow, if you have a chiro I suggest seeing him and if you don't I suggest getting one. If I had to choose between massage and chiro I would go chiro any day.

Hope it heals up soon man.

I do have a chiro in the same building as massage. I havnt seen him in a while though. I do as much self adjusting on my spine as possible with the balls in a sock trick. I do it multiple times daily. Plus my massage therapist does alot of chiropractic type adjusting on my spine. She is like an acrobat. Does some pretty extreme stuff. But yeah theres still room for an actual chiropractor I agree.

I hurt mine 2 months ago in a corporate challenge tug-of-war (we won). My rear delt was swollen until just recently... pain still shoots me when I do stupid things like put a shirt on. Anyone ever do something similar?

^^ Thanks bro.

I was tenatively going to try to go light monday. But it feels no where near 100%. Still aches on the back side of the side delt in one of the most common tear areas. That front part of my delt where the initial pain was is still wierd.
I really dont have a good vibe about it. I wasnt even thinking about what I was doing last night as I was holding myself up like a push up like we all do while getting laid. That didnt help at all.
Going to see an ortho specialist monday morning.

Update: Saw a specialist today. Had xrays ect. She did a bunch of range of motion shit, ect. She says its not a tear. But she said I REALLY aggravated it. Every range of motion test felt fine. With the exception of holding my arm straight out to the side and having her push down while I resist. That was pretty sore. (on that back side of the side delt)
Every since that it has been sore all day again. She said I can return to the gym when I feel ready. I explained to her I plan to go volume and very light with no overhead for a while longer. But ofcourse if theres any pain I will stop. She said to expect some extra soreness in that shoulder while its healing. Also that its a MUST that I go back to doing rotator strength exercises with bands.
I also have bone spurs at the end of each collar bone pointing down. Nothing large but still there.

Bro,

I'm not a MD, but I can tell you my own experience I had with my shoulder. Motion tests are good
when looking for a cuff tear, but not with LABRUMS. I passed all the motion tests and all my xrays came back negative. However,my delt kept throbbing, and was sore all the time, so I made them give me a MRI, sure enough I had a tear in my labrum, you keep complaining about your rear delt hurting that's a leading indicator that there is something wrong with your labrum. My advice to you is tell your ortho to give you a mri for your own peace of mind, and prevent further damage. I'm not trying to discourage you, but delts are touchy,so you have to be real careful. You can train with a torn labrum. However, all you will do is cause more wear and tear on it. I went 3 yrs with a torn labrum, but now it's so bad I have to get surgery Oct 8th, if i don't Doc said eventually I'll need a new joint. Just trying to look out...

Its not aching anymore. I think its just trying to get over me traumatizing my rotator. However, I am not discounting the fact that there could be something actually still wrong other than strain, ect. I am going to go back today and do very light chest. Starting with 20's, ect. Even if it felt great today (which i dont expect) I wouldnt go above 50's.
I'm going to try very light flys also. Just to check the full range of motion. Its not going to be so much a getting back to the gym day. More a lets see where this is at day. I am fully expecting it to hurt. Not in a sore recovering way either. I still have the feeling theres an issue in there somewhere. This is my way to check it out so I can go back to them and say no, theres a problem, MRI it.
Tearing my meniscus in both knees is one thing. Having a totally shredded ACL that I walk around with daily is one thing. But shoulder injuries can change your life.
Believe me when I say, i'm not just taking her advice and going okee dokee, and skipping back to the gym. I know my body extremely well. I'm not sold that its gonna be ok. So I gotta check it out.
At the least I'll do legs today and probably bi/tri. Since I can train those light with alot of volume without moving my shoulder joint.

Ah "Xray" they did that to you did they?

Ask them:
why do you want me to do an Xray when it wont see the damage you need to see based on tissue characteristics?

Any real doc should have you do an MRI

Unfortunately with HMOs its hard to get them to pay that money since they are cheapos

key is to ease in 50% first 2 weeks, then moderate another 2

No, I dont have a HMO. If I push them for a MRI they'll do it. Even if the ortho bawked about it(they have on sight MRI too) I could just go see my primary doc and she would send me in a second.

I went to the gym today. Did chest, tri, bi.

I REALLY wanted to go easy with flat DB press. So I grabbed 20's and did 25 reps. Then flys for 15 reps. Then the same thing with 25's. Then with the 30's I did 15 reps and flys for 6 reps when I stopped cause both my side delts were on fire. My right shoulder actually hurt too(the non aggravated one). Left shoulder felt pretty good but I was just super cautious with it.
That was all I did for chest. I'll work it up gradually from there. It felt pretty good after cool down too.
Being that both shoulders seem to be jacked up in the same way I think its an issue with both sides. Just the left side got pissed first. I seriously need to get my ass doing rotator strengthening exercises.
There were no issues with bi/tri's. Did 15 rep sets, 5 sets for each part.

this whole thread makes me depressed. my worst physical shape ive ever been in was because of a messed up shoulder. I keep getting emails that say Rotator Injury and it brings back memories lol.

well.....I've had two very light chest workouts. My shoulder is doing good. My other shoulder however is not doing so hot. Same type of shit. Thats why i'm convinced that my rotators are just pissed and have had it. As opposed to having an isolated tear oor whatever in the left side. The left one just decide to give me an issue before the right. I'm just going to back off for a while and do high rep flys instead of pressing movements. Light machine rows and cable pull downs for back also while I hammer the rotator strengthening exercises and they start to feel better.
Bi's, tri's and legs will go on with heavier weights as usual but higher reps and more volume training as working those body parts has not effected my shoulders in any way.
Just going to drop the calories way down and cut as I have needed to do for a LONG time. Expecting to cut from 275 down to at least 240. Problem is just getting the discipline to get that hour of cardio in 5 days a week. Then an additional hour (2 total) on non lift days.
Going to leave the test for another month or so but at 375wk. I figure why not, its already there. Not gonna shut me down any worse in another month than it has in the last 6 weeks.

I know you don't want to hear this, but I would take some time off my friend.

light exercises that touch on that area will help them get stronger. Along with specific rotator excercises. So when I say I will be doing light flys I mean like 25's, 30's. Weights that dont make it sore during the movement and dont leave it sore afterwards. If I take time off I will just be doing bands for rotators. The 6.5 month break I took away from the gym was good for my knees and pulled muscles that I had but wsnt good for my rotators because i wasnt doing anything to strengthen them during that time.
Plus when I am off, there is no denying my diet goes to complete shit.

how about some swimming?

Actually now that I look closer I believe I found the problem

you have been doing DB flys each chest workout. From now on : one workout do cable flys or another pressing movement you like, then the next time you do chest do DB flys.

because you have been doing them each time, your body got complacent with it even though your form may be excellent.

So after a week and a half or so of trial and error basically I have to drop chest all together. No shoulders. I can do light productive back w/o without aggravation but i'm not going to train back and not chest. I can still train legs obviously. Also I can train bi/tris and have been without any aggravation.
There is no tear or whatever in my left shoulder. Both shoulders have the exact same problem in the exact same spot. I'm in the same position I was 2.5 years ago when I wasnt training. I simply have reverted to a real nice case of rotator cuff tendonitis again. The fact that it went from zero to fuckin ouch in a weeks time kinda pisses me off.
Its only the rear side of my rotators. So I have all the bands, ect ect....all the shit I need. I just have to get going religiously with rotator strength exercises and it "should" be fine again in a couple months. Before 2 years ago I had been away from the gym a couple years. When I tried to come back I had the same problem. Took a few months of deep tissue and strengthening to get them back out of the state of tendonitis.
I did get a little strain or something in the left shoulder but that was simply because that one got pissed first. The right shoulder followed suit within a few days and now actually is more uncomfortable than the left.
So..... 150mg of deca wk to help with joint lubrication and collegen synthesis and alot of rotator cuff conditioning commensed yesterday. I started the deca again after dropping it a few weeks ago when i was uncertain wtf was up. Its day 3 and like always on day 3 I feel the effects of it on my shoulders already.
I will continue cardio even more and cutting bf%.....wtf else have I got to do. This gives me the perfect reason to lose my fat ass.

UPDATE

Well......I havnt been here since I posted on this thread last. About 6 mos. I havnt lifted a thing or been in a gym since then. Sitting here on my fat ass. Both shoulders, rear rotator cuffs super tendonitis. exactly the same both sides. Man, I cant even hold my arms out in front of me looking for shit in the kitchen cupboard for more than 20 seconds without my shoulders being on fire. cant hold my cell phone up to my ear for very long without it burning like hell. Either side.
The origional injury I posted about was actually nothing. Just a freak thing. But shortly after....wham....simultaniously both shoulders revert back to the two other times in my life when i had tendonitis really bad.
Couple weeks ago I said fuck this....enough sitting here getting fat and being a slob. I started going to my deep tissue therapist once a week again. She keeps telling me since it happens the way it does and its the exact same on both sides its got to be something going on thats being missed.
Well...a little detail occoured to me that I have overlooked. When I went to get the origional post problem diagnosed she told me I have a bone spur(s) at the outside of my shoulder in the acromion(sp) area. She guaranteed without a doubt that the opposite shoulder had the same issue.
Well....a little research revealed that these bone spurs are a serious cause of exactly the problem i am experiencing. Along with bursitis too. So I'm calling my ortho's office in the morning to get this shit under way getting them removed.
I'm elated at the prospect of being able to lift again maybe in the near future. Well....months, but still. I promised myself I wouldnt even dream of another cycle until I got down to at least 8% BF so its going to be quite a while. I am however going to start HGH at some point as soon as its affordable for me to do so. Just an HRT does but long term.
