Not convinced by online bmr/rmr calculators

i'm new to this site, but have been training for 20 years. Cutting up is something I haven't really spent much time doing....I've always hovered in the 13-16%BF range (217Ibs, 5'10''). I noticed over the last few years however my BF has crept up (i'm 37 now). So 10 weeks ago I started dieting, initially just maintaining a calorie deficit with one cheat meal on Saturday night. My intake was 2300-2500/day. 2 weeks ago everything slowed and my workouts crashed so I have started carb cycling (no, low, high - 0,<150, <300). In all i've lost about 12 lbs although now with carb cycling my weight can vary by as much as 6 Ibs.

My question after that long winded blurb is this. Most diet articles put the maintenance calorific intake at 3000 Kcals......do you all believe this. If you search on line and test different calculations it can vary wildly from 2300 - 3000, which is going to significantly modify your diet plans.

Also......its an age old question, but do you think a no carb day is really necessary. I can do it, but its brutal and I do wonder what the effect is on you recovery......if you train 4-5 days a week no matter what you do, you'll train a bit muscle group on or the day before a no carb day at least sometimes.....

Thanks for the input.....
