Non-stop coughing

Shot in the dark.

My 70 y/o dad, once again, has a cough that won't go away. Coughs every 60 seconds, two weeks straight. Went to the doctor and got some meds - but not helping. He had this last year, but finally went away after 2 months. I hate seeing him suffering and not being able to enjoy life.

Any suggs?

I remember you telling us about that last year. Have you tried suggesting that he see another doctor? Every sixty seconds, yeah...there has to be a way to figure out whats going on there.

Yeah, he tried. specialist said to wait 2 weeks and see if current medication from family doc works or not first. Then might take 2-3 weeks to get an appt from that point on.

Welcome to socialist medicine in canada. The canadian healthcare cheerleaders should be proud.

That hydro cough syrup sounds good

Is it a dry cough?

May want to try little things like having him take fish oil supplement, could give a slight enough anti-inflammatory effect and help him out. How is his diet? May want to switch that up to.

There is a virus that causes damage to a nerve in the voicebox that can trigger a mystery unproductive cough. My Dad had something similar, and it disappeared. Even after having chest xrays and junk, trying all medications etc they still couldn't stop the cough and I remember reading something about that...it disappeared just like that before we got to that point but if that's what is is, they do have meds that can deal with that sensation. I guess it can come and go too...I don't really remember much about it, sorry. He described it as a tickle but it seemed like there was nothing causing the tickle and the coughing fits were terrible, he couldn't speak. Strange. I hope your Dad can get this resolved quickly and get back to enjoying himself.
