Doesnt have to, it was left that way because i went on a hunting trip and never fired the rifle, so it was loaded the whole time. Remember this thing is locked in its case with the safety on the whole time also.

my m16 did that in basic on a night fire.....was down range thought think it was the tracer

A safety is a mechanical device which can or will fail. You just learned an invaluable lesson about safe gun handling. There's no reason to leave one in the chamber, not iven in your nightstand pistol.

ok, I get it now.........the round was chambered, not just loaded.......so the spring was cocked. Still, how the fuck did the safety fail? And yeah, Mossberg would be getting a piece of my ass the very next day. Didn't know they were known for rifles, but don't they make the best shotties?

Dave, you do realize you could have gotten your rifle confiscated had you been pulled over and the cop saw it loaded?

I am curious to hear mossberg's explaination and what they are going to do to remedy the situation. Never heard of that before. Seems like too much has to fail if you had the safety on as well. Do you have the Mossberg 4x4?
