My hernia surgery adventure part 1...

Got the surgery done on Wednesday. All went well...initially. They hook me up to IV, I go pale white, nearly pass out. My wife has our baby with us (even though out mother in law is at home - doing nothing).

Go in for surgery, and I wake up from being KOed from the anesthesia. They tell me they are having problems with the epidural (figures) so they cannot set it and I get no pain killers. Sweeeet.

As they are moving me around, and jabbing my middle back with needles, I feel something warm, I touch my side, blood everywhere. I hear someone say something about "nicked artery" and next thing I know I am waking up, it is late in the evening and they, had to go in a cut me open again to fix that. lol

Anyway, today is Saturday, still no epidural (my wife saw 18 pokes on my back from where they tried to get that set), but they gave me a morphine drip which slows down the healing of the digestive tract. The dose is so low I do no even know why they bother.

I am on day 4 right now. It usually takes 4-5 days for the intestines to start working again without being on morphine so probably I'll be here until next Wed at least.

They gave me some valium too but that just makes me sleepy and gives me a headache.

Time for me head out for a smal walk...

I am dreading the day , I have a slight bulge in a disc between L4-L5
I have to wear a belt super tight for squats and deadlifts.

Sometimes it is fine for months then out of no where it just flares up and hits the nerve and my whole lower back is in pain for 3-4 days so bad I can not walk right .

I know surgery will prob be my only option . I am dreading it ,

One of my core beliefs is not is to not sure doctors because it doesn't nothing but increase health care costs for all of us. Even if I sued my original doc who didn't stick in the patch right in the first place, all I would get is a cash settlement and he would still get to practice medicine. He needs to be held accountable though. I may end up suing him solely to get his med license revoked. He doesn't know that I do not give a shit about money. All I want is an end to his career. Lawyers that make a living suing docs do not deserve to practice law.

I just fond out I get to eat some jello and broth. Yum!

If my wife would get off her ass and send me the pics we took I'd show you all the 18 inch cut that is filed with staples. The best thing now is that I will never have to worry about having a 6 pack of abs again. I may be able to get it own to a three pack and 2 lumps...

The first time it was with a local guy. A lot of people I know spoke well of him.

This time I went to UNC and Duke and saw two guys who are best in the nation with this and went with the one at UNC.

Wow, you must have had a wicked bad hernia! I've got a minor umbilical hernia I need to have fixed, but at this point it's still strictly discretionary. I saw a surgeon and he said the repair would only require that pinhole type surgery with two small incisions on either side of the navel to place the patch.

I thought they only do the epidural or whatever when it's general anesethia?

I had two hernia operations (umbilical, and right inguinal), both were fixed correctly in Vegas (with a HMO doctor) - a city not known for it's great surgeons.
What's up with the epidural? I never had that.
