I think no training partner is better than a shitty one. I like to train alone mostly because it's so hard to convince anyone to do anything but the magazine style volume routines. I have worked out with a bunch of guys from work but it usually doesn't last long. I'm not a beast by any means but going from a volume routine involving tricep kickbacks and stuff to a hardcore balls to the wall 5x5 scares a lot of people.
