Lets talk radar detectors

My experience is go 100mph anywhere in TX except Williamson County. I go 2mph below the limit all the way through there. I have a heavy foot, and I also rationalize speeding by telling myself that speed limits are engineered for "the average driver in the average vehicle". So that means to me, that if I'm freshly rested from a full night's sleep, and the weather is perfect, and I'm in a good vehicle with excellent brakes, tires, and all, I can speed radically and be safer than a tired 80-year-old in a 6000-lb Lincoln with worn out steering and hard, cracked tires; going below the speed limit. Unfortunately, the law doesn't go by that logic.

All jokes aside, most police go by the 10mph over = ticket rule. It's also attitude (yours and the cop's), and luck. Radar detectors don't really do anything except tell you when you're near a grocery store automatic door sensor.

I speed badly...like excessive speeds...there is a new graphic in Ct's license plates that supposedly make it even easier for laser to nail speeders

I have a police officers widows and orphans club plaque on the back of my car plus vet plates...I don't get pulled over

Maybe you should look into cruise control instead. As others have said, set it for less than 10 over and you should be OK. No guarantees though...especially in TX. 7 years ago I drove to Texas and back. I got a ticket coming and a ticket going. Both times in West Texas on the 10. The one going was coming down a hill, braking, in traffic moving at the same speed, going 10 over, and I got the ticket. Good luck rob.

Too much changing from cruise to having to brake to setting cruise again, blah blah. There always seems to be just enough traffic to make me keep braking, setting cruise, brake, set, cruise, etc etc.
I really just need a top of the line radar/laser detector and am willing to pay good money for it. With the tickets Ive been getting it will pay for itself the first time it even fucking detects anything.

radar detectors operate by sending a never ending beam of radar in the direction the vehicle is facing. at the point of which you nice new vehicle and girlfriend come into the beam it calculates the time it took the beam to come back to the police vehicle( which is all done in hundredths of a second) there are three types of radar, x band, k band, and ka band, most departments have gone to the ka band which returns signals in much faster time, it can also check the speed of the car ahead of you even if youre driving in the same lane or meeting. the one in rear picks you up as you approach or pass the police car. The only time a radar detector is usefull is if the cop has just been sitting in the same spot for a long time and not looking when your speed showed up, that gives you a chance to slow down before he does look. If you do get pulled over then immediately take it off the vehicle and throw it under the seat, seeing it will only cause a ticket more likely to be written, if they are using lidar that means they are aiming a gun that shoots a lasar at your vehicle and gives them an instant reading, no beating that, only downfall is the officer must be parked to use it. So to sum this up radar detectors are a scam and cannot beat any current radar or lidar. hope that helps
