If you really want something that is getting hot and probably going to get hotter, a Checkpoint Certified Systems Engineer is probably going to be a big one down the road. If you go through the CCNA track, you could also migrate toward a Cisco Security Engineer. Security is getting hot among Fortune 500 companies as they are being told that cyber terrorism is going to happen and we had better be prepared for it.
I am a CCSE and a CCSA and it hasn't brought me shit. Security market sucks ass right now. At least in SoCal.
I wouldn't advise someone thats new to computers to get into security. It's a very difficult field. You need to have a solid understanding of many different areas of IT. It's much easier to start off doing something else and migrate into security then learn security from the start.
Taking my CISSP March 9th, hopefully that'll bring in some decent offers.
