yep. It's called the statue of limitations, which is normally 7 years, but if u make a payment - it starts again, plus you just reaffirmed its yours.

Oh and never ever pay a collection agency. Unless u wish to throw away money.

Yeah, well I found out the hard way that even if you dont know you've got debts you can be prosecuted for them. Long story short, I got into a dispute with US bank over some BS charges and just closed my account. Checks came through, they didnt pay and I never got notified about it. Fast forward 4 years to a month ago... I get pulled over (for hugging the yellow line... wtf?) and told I have a warrant for bad checks THAT I NEVER KNEW ABOUT because I moved after I closed the account and my mail wasnt forwarded to my new address. My account was closed with US bank because I wasnt informed I was overdrawn when I made a deposit. My register was pennies off , and so I got whammied by their $5 a day overdraft + $15 on the third day until my register was a couple hundred dollars off. I said screw it, took the loss and closed my account. It was my fault for overdrafting myself by a few cents. For the rest, I was treated like I was worthless.

easier said than done sunshine. You don't just write a letter saying 'take this off my report' and boom, it's gone. It's become more complicated now and the cr industry has become better at trying to keep derogatory information on. The Fico system is pretty complex.

r

Its not complicated at all. I joined a free "fix your credit" forum and got all the information i needed.

My credit score went from around 600 to 700 in just a few months.

Can you send it to me too please?

I have a single solitary bad report that keeps showing up... I never heard of the account or know where it came from...
Some account from 5 years ago for an eye wooping $300... I was told not to pay it, since it would mean the debt WAS mines and late for all those years. So I want to try and dispute it some how...

The statute of limitations will be up soon and negative accounts that old for that little amount of money won't affect your credit score enough to be concerned.

question for the credit masters.. I have heard that if you have a 730, going any higher doesn't really give you any more leverage

is this true? something about after 720 you already qualify for top tier loans?

but that is what everyone is surrendering their debts too now. Especially student loans. If it is an U.S. educational loan they just turn it over to collection agencies. How do you get around that dilemma?
