IDDM weight trainer needs diet help (type I diabetic)

MS

Elite Mentor
I am posting this on behalf of a woman who reads these boards regularly at work, but is unable to register or post questions in person. She doesn't have a home PC to work from, and she has no idea where to begin. Her original email to me was:

"I was wondering do you know of any trainer & nutritionist in the Charleston,
SC area that would be able to work with me?  The reason why I ask is that I
am moving to Charleston, SC later this month to be with my fiancee and I
wanted to work with a reliable trainer & nutritionist but unfortunately I do
not know anyone or any reliable organizations that could recommend one so I
would just have to look in the phone book.  (By the way, I am a Type 1
diabetic who also has auto-immune hepatitis, so I would need a nutritionist
that would be willing to work with me).  I contacted some trainers via the
web to ask about having phone consultations, etc. (George and Will Brink,
but due to my health conditions they did not feel comfortable working with
me over the phone/e-mail - which I understand). I have been working out with my fiancee for two years.  Heavy - but my
eating habits are horrendous, so I have become a lot stronger, but not much
else to show for all my hard work.  Well, my fiancee is a Major in the USMC
and he has been called to duty to help defend our country last week.  So I
will be living by myself in SC for awhile :-( and I want to surprise him
when he returns with my new and improved body.  He has gotten frustrated
with me (and me too) due to the fact that I work out all the time but I
continue to halt my progress with my poor eating habits.  Well I am tired of
spending an hour and half, 6 days a week in the gym and having little to
show for it. I would post this on the Women's Discussion Board at Elite and see if anyone
could recommend anyone to me, but unfortunately I only have access to a
computer at work and I can read the boards but I can't post on them. If you could recommend someone or even give me a name of an organization
that could recommend someone I would be grateful. Thanks!"

Please please please if you could avoid flames and offer either positive advice or at least some good referrals for her??

thanks

I'd tell her that no matter what workouts she does, her diet is of paramount importance and that usually comes down to her willpower-not the advice of a nutritionist-also she should goto a local gym and ask the staff expert for help
