Well to all of those who remember me here and have kept up with my posts from Ft.Gordon GA heres another update

On Thursday a Ranger Recruiter came by to talk to everyone in my Batallion who was interested in joining the 75th Ranger Regiment. Well Low and behold he brought some volunteer statements and gave me a pretty good assurance that I would be able to go straight into a RIP course from Airborne school...If I'm a Airborne holdover for more then 3 weeks then I should be able to go straight from Graduation at AIT back to Ft Benning for a RIP course before going to jump school....So I have signed up for it.

SO now my Orders to go to Alaska should be cancelled....Any of the "Old" Rangers here know much about this sort of stuff or any words of Advice...

Also I took my EOC PT Test on monday and passed my pushups portion with 81% so only a little ways to go till my back is up to 100% strength...I didn't start to tire out till I hit about 40 Pushups which was just more then a minute into the test...

I ended up with 58 pushups, 57 situps, and a 12:48 2mile run all weighing in at a wimpy 195lbs

I should be able to max my pt test over the next 2 months I have left at Ft. Gordon. so as long as my back gets back up to par and I can keep working out more then our usual PT I should be physically Ready to go...

holy shit your pt standards make the cf's look like a kintergarden gym class,i over exceed everyone on the level im at and i run 2 miles in about 20mins and can get 35 push ups and 40 sit ups

i wish i could goto your army sometimes

Chris,

Sorry about the other weekend. Glad things are going well for you.

I don't think you'll have a problem with getting into Airborne after AIT - Airborne schools start every week and there is plenty of room. Most people I know that did RIP go right after Airborne.

It;s a different world. Most people are patting each other on the back and talking to their families after Airborne graduation...the RIP guys are sitting on their stuff waiting for the RIP Instructor to pick them up.

Then he shows up, and suddenly the RIP guys take off running, never to be heard from again.

RIP isn't really super hard..so I hear. (I was an officer - preparation is a little different - never went to RIP). basically, you'll be running a lot and doing a lot of PT, but if you have some friends to get through it with, you'll be fine.

Your Alaska orders are pretty much out the window. If you don't get through RIP (either quit or whatever) you become "unassigned" which usually means "Korea". Just keep doing PT....

No prob about the other day....Yeah I've reached a new level of motivation, so quiting never has and never will be an option. The Sgt that came and spoke with us told us that after graduation from jump school that Sgt's in charge of RIP should come and grab us and run us the 4 blocks from jumpschool to where the RIP school is at. From that point after the 3 weeks is up for that then I should be assigned to the 75th Reg Headquarters one of the Commo shops unless they assign me to 1 of the 3 Bn's

So 9 more weeks of AIT and the Dream Begins...On to bigger and better things in the ARMY....A buddy of mine at AIT is trying to get out of his National guard unit and into the Regular Army so he can try and go with me to RIP. Not to sure if he will be able to do so but it would be pretty cool to have someone else thats motivated to join me.

Matt are there any big differences between staying at the Reg Headquarters and going to one of the Bn's?

Well, if you are out at teh BN's you are training to fight...if you are at HQ you are patr of teh team that (in war) manages the fight. So the mentality is a little different.

You tend to find a more educated group of people at HQ, but that's because there are a lot of administrative duties.

You'll get more out of the experience by going to the BN's.

Well I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that they keep me in GA...Ft Lewis looks like a cool place but I would prefer stick around GA for awhile...I guess it's starting to grow on me...Hopefully I'll get a chance to check out Savanah sooner or later

well we know if our country ever fought your country we would kick your country's ass! :D

based on the PT standards in the Army I'm doing ok but I'm a good ways away from the top PT Studs in my class...We had a 342 and 326 on the extended scale during one of our diagnostics.

I'm wanting to reach a 300 by the end of my time at Ft Gordon. so till then more running, more pushups and situps
