How is Friendster.com the NEXT BIG THING ?

I read some MSN article on it. They're touting as the second coming of christ. To me all it seems like it is, is another dating site that seems to broaden the spectrum to also looking for plain old friends. I don't know but I cannot see myself finding a mutual guy friend who shares the same interests to hang with in real life from online sites. That to me is just something that has to happen naturally in the real world. That kinda stuff makes it seem all superficial. Plus I'm just one of those people that takes time to view anyone as anything close to a friend, and this requires lots of REAL time spent in their presence in the REAL world, like a work environment; brushing shoulders a few times a day and slowly getting to know you, not seeing their pics online and reading their interests and chatting online a few times and deciding "omfg d00d u r so cool i think im yur friend!!1 Let's go drink coffee now!" I mean, to me the world where I breathe air is the REAL world and it's the one that matters most.

I don't really see this site as the next big thing, unless people these days are THIS out of touch with reality, and we are really so bad socially that we can't even bring ourselves to say hi to a stranger and attempt to make friends with someone in the real world anymore for fear they will yell at us or something, then I guess it'd be viable, but if that's the case, that's fucking sad.

Its the next big thing because people are getting laid.. turn those friendsters into fucksters!

Looking for a chick online for sex or whatever is, to me, a lot different than trying to find a guy friend to chill with. I just would never be able to search a site for a guy with mutual interests to chat with and if the "mating" ritual goes smooth online, then we can actually meet for coffee or something woo! Score. I mean you already run a huge risk of meeting girls online, wondering if the next one you meet will, in real life, turn out to be the psycho loony type who will say shes on the pill just so she can get pregnant, I don't think any straight male should have to deal with bullshit drama from online meetings coming from other guys also. Plus, you might run into a guy who seems all cool online, then when you see him in real life, he turns out to be a Rick Lunny. Then what do you do?

someone asked me to join friendster a while back, and i did, but not interested in it. but it's actually good because you can still message a lot of people without paying for something (i won't pay shit for a dating site). however, i have never considered contacting a dude for the purpose of making friends. or for any other purpose.
