I think that the "less painful" way of increasing your calorie intake is with essential fatty oils such as hemp oil. Adding a couple of tablespoons of hemp oil to your mrp is a very healthy and convenient way to add quality calories to your diet.
Let take your tipical mrp of 250 calories or so. Add two tablespoons of hemp oil (at 120 cal each) and mix with 500ml of some 2 percent milk. This will give you in excess of 700 calories and about 55 grams of protein and you won't feel like puking after finishing it.
I suggest three solid meals a day and three liquid meals. Pack in a bar whenever you can. By using those three EFA enhanced shakes a day as the cornerstone of your diet, you won't have a problem reaching 3000-3500 calories a day.
