Palin says she's ready to step in as president



Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Thursday that she didn't blink when Republican John McCain asked her to be his running mate, a surprise selection that shook up the presidential race.
"I didn't hesitate, no," she told ABC's Charlie Gibson in her first televised interview since accepting the Arizona senator's invitation to be on the Republican ticket two weeks ago.
"I answered him 'yes' because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink, you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can't blink. So I didn't blink then even when asked to run as his running mate," said the 44-year-old Palin, a governor who has been in office less than two years.

Asked if she felt ready to step in as vice president or perhaps even president if something happened to the 72-year-old McCain, Palin said: "I do, Charlie, and on January 20, when John McCain and I are sworn in, if we are so privileged to be elected to serve this country, we'll be ready. I'm ready."

Gibson also read Palin a comment she made in her former church — "Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God" — and asked whether she thought the United States was fighting a holy war.

Palin said she was recalling Abraham Lincoln's words when she made the comment and said: "I would never presume to know God's will or to speak God's words."
Asked if her son Track who is headed to Iraq was on a mission from God, she said she didn't know about that.

"I don't know if the task is from God, Charlie," Palin said. "What I know is that my son has made a decision. I am so proud of his independent and strong decision he has made, what he decided to do and serving for the right reasons and serving something greater than himself and not choosing a real easy path where he could be more comfortable and certainly safer."

Boy she's really going to give Obama a run for his money when it comes to public speaking.

Slate's Jack Shafer: "Without being smarmy about it or unfurling gotcha questions, ABC News anchor Charles Gibson demonstrated that he knows volumes more about national security and foreign policy than does Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin . Palin can't blame her muddled responses on Gibson, who treats her fairly and conducts himself professionally. Never mind about her not being ready to be president. She wasn't even ready for this interview.

Andrew Sullivan: "It's very clear that Palin has never heard of the Bush doctrine, perhaps the most significant element of his disastrous legacy in foreign policy. She is clearly out of her depth."

New Republic's Eve Fairbanks: "I have no doubt Palin is intelligent, but she sounded like someone who had simply never had to think about many of the things Gibson asked and had just crammed for a test."
 
It is quite obvious that Palinfidel has the brain capacity of a hockey mom trying to bullshit her way through a job interview.

This was just a preemptive interview so McCain's camp could see how she handled herself before the debates where she is going to get run down and slaughtered. (like the wolves that she advocates hunting from helicopters)

Rest assured, McCain will schedule her for more time with the flash cards until she can memorize her lines and answers.

I realized three things from her interview. For one, if you are a McCain/Palin/Bush voter, you and I do not have a difference of opinion. We have a difference in brain power. With you on the lacking end. Two, she really is as ignorant as I feared. And, three, she really is kinda hot. Basically, I want to have sex with her on my Barack Obama sheets while my wife reads aloud from the Constitution. (My wife is cool with this if I promise to "first wipe off Palin's tranny makeup." I married well.)

Now, I want to be clear and speak directly to those of you who LOVED that Palin interview. You're an idiot. I mean that. This is not one of those cases where we're going to agree to disagree. This isn't one of those situations where we debate it passionately and then walk away thinking that the other guy is wrong but argued well. I'm not going to think of you as a thoughtful but misguided person with different ideas who still really cares about the country and the world. No, sorry, not this time. This time, if you watched those interview excerpts and weren't scared out of your freakin' mind, then you're mentally ill, mentally disabled, or mentally disturbed. What you are NOT is responsible, informed, curious, thoughtful, mature, educated, empathetic, or remotely serious. I mean it.

But I like to think that anyone can change.

Stop voting for people you want to have a beer with. Stop voting for folksy. Stop voting for people who remind you of your neighbor. Stop voting for the ideologically intransigent, the staggeringly ignorant, and the blazingly incompetent.

Vote for someone smarter than you. Vote for someone who inspires you. Vote for someone who has not only traveled the world but who has also shown a deep understanding and compassion for it. The stakes are real and they're terrifyingly high. This election matters. It matters. It really matters. Let me say that one more time. This. Really. Matters.

Thinking Palin is equally qualified as Obama because she ran Alaska for < two years is proof people see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear. McCain will have a chest explosion six months into office and the whole country will collectively go "ohhhh shit!" while the Middle East praises Allah.

Generally speaking, true. Sure there will be a handful of minorities who will look past racial alignment and vote McCain but I'd really be surprised if he won. I think the sea change of minorities and liberal whites who sympathize with them has reached critical mass.
Anyone who thinks race isn't at the center of this election is incredibly naive.

I talked with a Puerto Rican buddy of mine and he told me he and his family are voting for the first time (he's lived in the U.S. for over a couple decades). He said he's voting Obama just to fuck with all the white people lol.

Well I have been honestly debating this with my boss a brillian 60 year old cardiologist whom I share an office with b/c of space, we sit in the same room.
He is pro-obama but bit thinking he has made alot of blunders.
I bring up some socioliogists, particularly one in the UK (who is black) who is the UK saying that if Obama is elected, it will set back race relations 40 years!

We have been debating that quite a bit. That America is basically fucked. No matter who is the next president, we are just fucked and it is past the point of no return we talked about today. Neither McCain nor Obama can do anything.
It is a job of a bullypuppit to rally people to a cause. On that matter he argued, Obama wins, McCain with his short stuffy arm and his dyslexic style of speech giving would not rally a people.

But, as devil's advocate, Obama and his speeches without clearly an idea or record can show or impress me with anything he could accomplish. Bush and McCain hate each other. McCain picked the Palin thing to get them onboard. He is an independent and I wouldve like him to pick Lieberman, Gore's pick for VP in 2000 and if they had won Florida, might very well be atop the presidential ticket for the Democrats.

I do not think skewering Palin is appropriate. Dailykos and them people were spamming webboards (we all hate spammers) that she covered for her daughter's down's syndrome pregnancy forcing her to come out that her 17 year old daughter was pregnant so it was impossible.

Given the context of the tremendous outrage and accusations of sexism and statements. Shouldnt a community organizer I mean president candidate have a little more sense?
