Here's what I think about Elitefitness (and it's downfall)

You've got some good points there, and George is thinking about all those things. (It's not my place to say much more about that. There will always be more ideas than time or budget to put them into play.)

On the Chairman invitation, I wouldn't be insulted about it. We're all grownups, right? We all get things in the mail that try to stroke us; some of them just work better than others. I'd be more insulted about the C&C peeps who feel they have to point it out to everyone, like they're the only ones who noticed and the rest of us are all stupid or something.

The way I'd approach this is "George wants to tell you a little story, and we'd like for you to suspend your disbelief and enjoy it. Let EF make you feel special for a few minutes." Okay?

I understand where you’re coming from. Just to clarify, I didn’t take the chairman invite as a direct insult. But the way it was packaged and advertised, as opposed to the reality of what it really is, makes it come off looking like a joke. And to send it out to everybody while masking the true agenda behind it is “almost” insulting.

I agree that it has gone downhill in the past 3 years..it was a good site in 2001-2003..lots of intelegent discussion...The avant labs forum is a good place to be right now also MM is good too...i lurk there

The support for this board is more centered towards C&C these days and rightly so because that is what is taking up all the space to store threads.

I do feel a lot of what your are saying, hell i've been here for almost 5 years and I too call this my home cause well im pretty loyal to something once I start it and i've only within the past year ventured out to a few other boards. I just want to still be here to offer what good information I can because there are so many out there that are looking for it and I'd be willing to bet 7 out of 10 times this is where someone lands.

We must remember that Elitefitness continue to find revenue streams so as to ensure the quality of the board remains high (technology) and that the bsuiness makes a profit. Elitefitness is not a registered charity and so a critical part of the board continuing.

karma has, i suspect been a good introduction to the revenue stream but it has not been without its problems that in hindsight were obvious (but hindsight is a wonderful gift).

By limiting karma to just C&C then it will limit the revenue stream as will nto have the visibility from all members (some never visit C&C). We therefore need to come up with a new idea to replace karma if it can not be fixed (i.e inflation etc). This will assist rather than criticise and mean that we all have in input to get the board on a ''happier'' course

It's a difficult balancing act. I can be pretty sure, though, that there's no-one who spends his time exclusively in the training forum who would seriously, for an instant, consider parting with money to buy Karma. It has seemed to me lately that there are ever fewer Plat members on the aas board, too.

Equally, it's possible that the training forum is viewed as a loss-leader for the board as a whole since only a small minority there are Platinum members. Most of the few who are Plat are often seen in C&C, anyway.

Don't forget, however, that advertising sponsorship also provides a revenue stream and the non-Plats do 'pay their way' simply by increasing the numbers frequenting the site.

Until the casino features are brought fully online it'll be hard to judge how effective selling Karma is likely to be. Some of the current features of Karma, though, are creating nothing but resentment and ill-will in the other forums. The recent spate of gratuitous red-karma bombs cannot be good for business unless it drives more people to become Plat than it simply drives away to other sites.

I think this is a very good idea. I like the idea better of getting rid of bombs all together. I also think that buying karma for yourself to boost your rep should be done away with. Karma shows (or should show) the legitimacy of the member posting.

I agree with you fully. When I posted that earlier post my mindset was still that C&C is the place for Karma whoring which, of course, it no longer is. There's no good reason for bombs to be anywhere now unless George cares to make a "Nuke Playground" forum. Let C&C go back to being a chat forum rather than a Karma forum.

One of my earliest suggestions in the "Give us your thoughts" thread was for multiple currencies. They now have multiple currencies with the Casino active. Just move everyone's K to the Casino and knock everyone back to one point of Karma Power which stays forever at one point and members can only do one hit per day. People can buy Casino tokens. Non-Plats can't hit until they have 1,000 posts.
