Guys, help me out, are tricep kickbacks definately a waste?

I've been replying as well to that thread MJ. Just put my two cents in over there with some of the knowledge I've learned from here.

I'm just waiting for someone over there to say that such and such tri exercise works this or that head and this or that area.

I won't do kickbacks, they might work for some, but I have my doubts on it due to the lack of weight and stress on the shoulder.

the angle make the tri muscle shorter hence less stretch and less degree of loaded tension.

Staples of tri for myself:

Overhead ext
Close-grip bench
Skulls
Pushdowns
Dips

I'd agree -- it doesn't make sense to pick tricep kickbacks when you have exercises with similar weights and twice the ROM available, such as many extensions.

in three and a half years of serious training i don't think i have ever performed a tricep kickback

If that's you in your avatar, then I wouldn't tell you to start doing kickbacks! ;)

If you take steroids, sure they might help, any exercise can help someone on the juice. But for the average natural lifter, this isolation stuff isn't gonna cut it!

:)

Ronnie's form looked horrible in "the Unbelieveable!" when doing kickbacks. I was a bit surprised he wasted his time with them.
