Yup. In fact, Phentermine made me too miserable to work out. Killed my appetite stone dead, but forget about doing any kind of lifting or cardio on it... I think the word is "malaise".
You may simply be taking too much at once, which means levels of the drug - and the neurotransmitters it affects - peak high and fall far. Try splitting the 37.5mg tabs in half, and either have one half upon waking, and the other half several hours later, or only one half dose per day.
I never understood why people said the drug had abuse potential; it got to a point where if I took it for more than a few days straight, even in small doses, I got really psychotic and depressed, and felt
so much better off it than on.
In terms of a substitute, depends on what you're looking for. Do you want a workout aid, or something that kills your appetite? NYC (norephedrine/yohimbine/caffiene) is a bit of both. 5-HTP plus r-ALA induce a sense of well-being, and although they don't give you a buzz, they supress the appetite remarkably well. R-ALA will also help increase glycogen storage, which will in turn help your workouts. You may also want to look into L-Tyrosine or L-Phenylalanine; these are precursors to the neurotransmitters that Phentermine depletes.
