gahhhhh... another background check.

stilleto

ELITE MENTOR
EF VIP
okay, so a job i was going for- i thought I had it and something about my background check made them go with someone else. (i guess. I mean, they were in the process of doing the check when they said they decided to go with someone else, and I thought I had the job wrapped up).

So i went on an interview on monday. big computer company. not big like google or gateway, but big like... sandisk or creative.

the interview went great. i'd be a product manager. cool.
except then they needed approval to do a background check. and at the bottom of the page, there was a line that said, "please list all names you have ever had, including the name on your birth certificate, any married names, and your maiden name."

I'm not going to look like a total fugitive or anything. not with 2 first names and 3 (really 4) last names. nah.

you should be fine......

thanks. i hope so.

i have another interview on friday that's much closer to home- i hope that one is good.
and I have another interview on monday for a job that seems GREAT- but it's an hour commute.

If I owned a company, and you walked into my company asking for a job, I'd tell you: "you had me at hello."

awww, thank you.

i THINK i'll get the job i interviewed for- which might be great, depending on how my next two interviews go. :)

I have been through some crazy interviews before. Six in one day, all for one position...

Good luck!

You had me at "Is the postion still open?".

Good luck Barbara.

what did I miss here? Don't you have a good job now?

i love my job.
unfortunately, i'm not making nearly what I'm worth. yeah, i should be happy just loving my job. but I see other managers (and some non managers) that do NOTHING and make more than me.
my office mate has been playing solitaire for 3 weeks straight. seriously. she has nothing to do. but they won't pay me more.

The interview I went on yesterday pays around 10k-14k more than i make now.
the interview I am going on on monday- that pays probably 22k more. to start.

Life is about progression, you need to go where you're happy

Any chance for advancement where you are? No need to step on, but step over the solitaire playing player to move up?

the way we are structured, i can't move up- i'm the manager of my department.
the solitaire player works on our database. along with 3 other college kids. so they pay all of them to do one person's work, but told me there's no money to give me a raise.

okay. bye.

$12-20k more? Factor in tolls and fuel. Damn fuel!

and more hours? Hmmm.

Can you steal anything from them? thanks.

jk

I don't know what all they really look for with those background checks because I have been arrested a few times but never convicted and I've had some big time background checks and credit checks too and I still got the jobs. Now when I went for my top secret clearance in the Army they didn't play they had people go back to my high school and hometown asking questions all about me.

no tolls. the interview i have on friday would be just a little further than where I am now.

I don't steal, so that's not an issue.
if i did (which i do NOT), the place I interviewed at yesterday would be a beauty.

right now, I'm the assistant manager of a marketing department. my boss is manager of marketing, tech support, sales, web development, and general manager of our germany division. so you can imagine, i do much more than any other assistant manager in the company, and make the least.

WTF? Canada has no such shit as that. I got hired on the spot for the job I have now however I US our parent company makes people do drug testing to get in WTF?

They have to pay health insurance premiums for employees in the US, so it's probably a condition from the insurer that they use.

if you get an offer are you going to try and use it as leverage for a raise? because from your posts in the past your current company seems pretty chill, definitely not something i'd take for granted

This is an awesome attitude, you go girl! A lot of people would be complacent because they were comfortable, etc.

Maybe when you receive a firm offer you can show it to your current employer and give him one last chance to match the salary.

Best of wishes to you Stills, I hope things work out for the best for you. More money doesn't really mean a lot for happiness but being better appreciated goes a long way for it.

Cheers,
Scotsman

well thank you.
their sales are down- i don't know if they'll come up with more money. of course, they also have a ton of summer help (all the manager's kids) coming in and having nothing to do...

they've just told me they will hate to see me leave, but even they know i'm underpaid and extremely competent. even upper management said their hands are tied and there just isn't any money to give me, and implied that they can't very well take some of someone else's salary for me, without getting rid of them.
they all said they hope I stay, but understand completely if i decide not to. so that's cool at least- there won't be hard feelings when i go.

it's near my house and convenient and I like the people there very much, but it's silly to be making 20k less than i should be.

on the phone interview I had yesterday i told him my situation and then we talked about the job. it sounds great, just an hour away. he didn't tell me what the salary was, he just laughed when i told him what i SHOULD be making here and said his job pays more than that.
the number he said I SHOULD be making, is 20k more than what i AM making.

Sounds like a company that won't be around very long if they are throwing money away on unproductive retards. Get out while the getting is good.

you're in sales.
My company does major back ground checks, including drug checks and a full physical

the first company that was going to do a background check was a pharmaceutical company. a MAJOR one.
I can certainly understand that- trade secrets, destruction, etc.

the interview I just went on was with a large computer component manufacturer. probably not as critical, but I still understand it.
