okay, im a poor college student trying to save money. i bought a 33 serving bottle of good flax oil for about 15 bucks. i work at a restraunt though and have a free supply of olive oil. just wondering if the olive oil is a complete substitute for flax? should i stick with flax at all times, or is it okay to just take the flax on days that i dont work. they both have 14grms of fat. please help me out. thanks bros.

The flax is definitely a better quality oil for dieting. However, if it were me and I were back in college, I'd go with the olive oil.

They are different and not interchangeable

Flax seed oil = omega 3s

Olive oil = high monounsaturated fatty acid content

and olive oil can be heated, not flax

Are you saying you can fry in olive oil and still get the benefits? I always thought that heating it to high temps altered its structure.

You're right, frying destroy some properties of the fatty acids

I was just trying to say that if you want to heat, even at moderate temperature, you should not use flax but you can use olive oil
cf the greek & Italians for instance who cook in olive oil
