350 on the last cycle, July 23 2001. If my memory serves me properly, I had a hard on the rest of the day because of that!!

Whiskey

about 400

Flat benching aint my thang! I can do 2x100lbs dumbell benches for reps while I can only crank out 2 at 225lbs for barbells.

My personal best is 335, natural, altho I wish I could do 405 natural. I have a friend who can bench that much, but he sure as hell doesnt look that strong. Must be muscle density or some shit like that, lol.

I'd like to see the stats and pics of all the people who feel compelled to reply to this post instead of just voting, and I don't mean the stats and pics of those who say that they hate or are bad at bench cuz those are the few honest ones.

so, are you saying that these are dishonest replies....IMO i didnt see anything that was totally outlandish and unbelievable......

Given this is a gas-oriented boar, I am real surprised at how low the overall level of strength appears to be. I suppose it depends upon a person's training goals. When I switched from bodybuilding structured workouts to pure stength, my overall dimensions dropped and my strength rose dramatically. So I would suggest that the people who are claiming bench stength in the 425+ range may not be liars, but may be stength athletes and those with lower max bences may be bodybuilders. Also there could be HUGE differences in overall body weight among respondents.

My honest approximate dimensions are weight 260, bfp 12%, single rep bench 440, squat 650 or so, dead 590 or so. I state that not to brag (because there are a helluva lot of people stronger than me) but to first say "yeah it is true," and second to say "it's not that good considering my body weight."

Did 465 with a bench shirt on.........420 without one..Will never ever wear one again it took me and my buddy almost 20 min to get it on..I said fuck it and cut it off

I think I used to do 295 for 8-9 reps but haven't done flat bench for over a year due to a fucked up shoulder. I can do just about any exercise but flat bench without soreness so now I usually start my chest wourkouts with incline dumbell presses and can do 150's. Bw 218lbs. 5'10'' inches.

I'll also add that back when I was powerlifting a bench shirt could add between 25 - 75lbs to your lift. This was about 5 - 6 years ago, I understand now they have shirts that'll add 100+ to your bench. This is one of the reasons bench press records have gone up considerably over the past few years while squat and deadlift numbers haven't changed all that much.

do u guys think that the shirts will add muscle more muscle mass ?or do they just up the bench ?

No, it's not for muscle building. And you wouldn't normally wear it while working out. It's difficult to put on because it's tight and inflexible, you need someone to help you put it on. It's intended to help you with the first few inches of the lift, you still need the tricep strength to finish the lift.

I currently weigh 160lbs, not sure of my BF (but feeling kinda "pudgy" after the holidays), 5'8", and my one rep (a month and a half ago) was 235lbs.

I haven't been to the gym in about a month for a number of reasons but I'm starting back tomorrow. Man, I'm gonna feel weak...

What the fuck???????

A bench shirt will not add 100 pounds to your bench, no way no how......end of discussion, I am suprised at the ignorance on this board, surely you guys if not lifting for strength yourself you do know someone who is? At any rate, I am a bodybuilder first and a powerlifter second, I am doing my first npc qualifier in three months, right now at the tail end of a size cycle I can hit 565 for two or three, won't ever do a one rep max again there is no point....when I am in the middle of a strength only cycle, I can hit 595 for a few, I am the only one on here surely not, currently I am 5'11" 262 lbs. 8-9% bodyfat and dropping, by show time I will be 239 hopefully and about 3-5% depending on bloat, at this point I will most likely be able to hit 485 for a few on a carb day....I'll let ya know, come on guys let's get strong......

GET BIG OR GET OUT:D

I get a kick out of these "how much can you bench" threads because it really doesn't matter how much you can bench, but how much you work out and how you look. I know guys that work out twice a week and all they do is bench and curls. Sure they can bench 400+ but they look like shit. I saw this guy come into the gym a few months ago with a huge fucking chest, and expected to see him put up multiple reps with 350+ but he struggled with 8x225. I know a lot of skinny little fuckers who can do more. Powerlifters in general aren't the biggest guys in the gym.

Stick to bodybuilding, because you don't know too much about powerlifting.

Hey, maybe those fat guys that bench 400 look at you and say, look at that skinny model looking dude... What a loser.

It is all in what people want. If a guy wants to be fat and strong, well... one less viable competitor towards my quest for pussy.

HA!!!!!!

HEY GENARR3......... just out of curiousity what where or are your totals?????? ya know three lift combo......and yeah you're rigth I don't know much about powerlifting, I was only an amateur champion for 4 years and competed on a national level for 3, but I don't know much......

i weigh 210 lbs, and got both shoulders bad so i am kinda afraid to max out on flat bench, my best on flat bench is 265 that was before i started my cycle. i do more machines for chest try to keep a natural movement.

Well for someone that weighs only 180lbs i can bench 275lbs.

Thats not to bad. But then again chest is not my strong part.

Legs baby... That's what shows who the real man is....lol

I'm just getting my chest into preportion with my legs , was never a great bench press , always a good squat though

most ever 1 rep , 475 during a workout after about 4 other sets.

315 x 18 reps fresh
225 x 53 reps fresh

but I weigh 290 , bf% about 15 , 6'2" , 25yrs old

if it bounces it don't count , and bench shirt and squat suits are for pussys !!!

Holy crap..............All i said was i wore a bench shirt and the shit hit the fan,As far as being a pussy for using one i had planned on going to a local contest and it was pretty much a standard to use so i said what the hell and went out and got one..as far as my 3 lift totals....bench 440
deadlift 505
my squat killed me..480
It was my 1st and only contest I placed 4th out of 27

In powerlifting meets bench shirts and squat suits are standard. You'd be competing at a big disadvantage if you didn't use the equipment.
TEST APE how much do you weigh?

I went in at 240.....I am 5'8

I pushed up 610 at a meet in early December. No shirt. But I weigh 315, so the difference isn't that big between the two.

My barbell bench is pretty pathetic for my size... So I'll just say it was in the 225-314 range, which is true... but I'm not gonna say what the weight was... I can do dumbbell benches pretty well, last cycle I did 110lbs dumbbells for 5 reps.

YUM

benching sucks donkey balls!!!!!!!!

imo

in other words I suck at it.

but incline dumbells are another story

At a body weight of 245lbs and at age 34 I got 625 lbs......(In competition)......Missed at 650 but got 655 lbs in the gym.
That is why they call me Benchmaster.

You also forgot to mention your age. Lets get into categories, age, weigh height etc.
I weigh 185, 6 ft
Benched two years ago 315 age 48
Bench now 265 age 51:bday:

545 - never used a bench shirt. I got till the end of the month for the end of this cycle so I'm pretty sure 600 is on the horizon. Not bad for weighing 250 lbs eh?

Well not quite 600 but tonight I did get 585! I'm pretty happy about that but we'll see how I feel tomorrow - that shit was pretty heavy on the way down to say the least LOL!

have never really done 1 rep max..

Right now im doing 2 work sets with 315, 10 reps and 8 reps on second set..

I think I would be able to do 405lbs for 1 rep...

that is at 240lbs.. So not that great at all...

Later

do u guys add the bar weight... or are these values just weight added to the bar??? Ive never tried a 1 rep max but I do 8 reps at 60KG+ bar which I assume is best part of 10KG... pretty shit really...

STUBS

445 @ 198 with a single-ply shirt. I love it when guys talk shit about benching, the reason is that their bench usually sucks!

My max was 275 about 2 years ago, now I just started benching again, for the first time in about 6 months, set 225. I've been doing dumbells ever since then, got up to 95's for 6 reps, all natural, no gear.

MY BENCH USED TO BE GOOD

THIS LAST SUMMER I WAS AT 385 2 TIMES NATURALLY, DURING MY FIRST COLLGE FOOTBALL SEASON I HAD MY ROTAR CUFF TORN. IM JUST STARING MY FIRST CYCLE OF DBOL. I ONLY CAN DO 315 LIKE 4 TIMES. I USED TO DO IT 8 OR 9. IMAGINE WHERE I WOULD OF BEEN IF I NEVER GOT INJURED. I HOPE DBOL BRING IT BACK.

Last time I really paid attention to my bench, I was hitting anywhere between 315-330 @ a bodyweight of 170-175. No gear at the time.

i don't bench anymore after shoulder reconstruction surgery.

best ever was 355x5, paused each rep on chest.

then less than a week later, played some football....POP-RR-R-R-R-RRRIIIPPP......

*pout*

5 years later, and I am able to do some DB presses, 5x5x130 as of last week, but I'm still real squeemish

410..err oh wait this is the internet....575lbs BABY!

I just got 350 for 5x5, so my guess is about 410 for a max, but my internet max is much better than Genarr's. I can bench 605 on the net ;)

i weigh 245 and currently i can do about 415, most i ever did was 435 and iwas on 1 gram a test, im pretty tall thou like 6-3 so i have far to push id like to see a poll of guys who are over 6ft tall and there maxs, dont get me wrong i hate excuses esp the token "i dont squat cuz its bad for you and blah blah" but it is harder for taller guys to bench and squat but taller guys should be able to pull every plate in the gym

is not how much you bench.....is how good you look.
Quality, not quantity. Always.

Did Jesus raise this thread from the dead???
I had to blow the dust off my screen this thread is so old!

My best was 355 for 3, but since I hurt my shoulder (and I'm a few years out of my spry 20's), I'm too scared to do much over 275 or 315 if I'm feeling really good. Sad, but I think a lot of it is mental.

Most i did was the bar and 3 plates and a 25 on each side for 7-8 times

I use to pause press 315 for reps of 5 until I tore my right pec on a 3 rep with only 295 which I think mother fucking creatine contributed to the pec tear.

Last cycle I hit 465x5 but its depressing because after football season im back down to around 465x1 again... Probably won't make it back up there without another cycle...

That was @ about 295 bodyweight, but now im down to around 280.

I never max - cause I only do Incline Bench press exercises.

I work out with 315 for 5-10 reps on incline bench.

Not enought ot impress anyone - but I'm still recovering , so I'll take it.

Planning my cycle for March or early April - it'll be the first cycle since I almost died 4 years ago - so I could certainly use ALL your help

Good grief. 205 max at weight of 170-ish w/ 15-16% BF. It's something. I'm convinced I"m not built to bench (5'11" thin-boned, non-athletic white guy).

Personal bests Are:
305 X 5 close grip bench(i dont bench any other way)
135lb X 5 Db incline.

6'2 280. Natural.

I'm surprised you can't incline more. My incline and flat are actually pretty close. It's within 40 lbs. Do you not work incline as much?

read closer: 135x5 DB

at first glance, it caught me too...
