Dumbbell vs. barbell

I've been training for 5 years off and on and I have noticed a difference between using dumbbells and barbells in terms of what muscles get worth and how they get worked. Assuming all things being equal and you had access to both which one do you prefer to give you the best chance to get in a quality workout
I like dumbells more, they give me more control
barbell hurts my shoulder especially in bench press
i like barbells for standing curls just to get a nice pump in my biceps and forearms.

i like dumbbells too for chest pressing exercises.

so they both are important. also flat olympic bar are important too. i would reverse that order for importance
I like both but I a love the db for more of an isolation on the muscle being worked . I feel I get more of a pump out of it.
