Do deadlifts thicken up your waistline?

I really DON'T want a larger waistline. I don't want to be built like a fireplug, I want to be tapered. I've been bulking for 2 months now and I am noticing my size 34 jeans not fitting too well at all. I don't know if this is due to bloat, fat gain, or deadlifts (which I've been progressing decently on), so I was just wondering what the consensus is....

I think so. They make the muscles in your core grow bigger and stronger. I love it.

Two things:

Yes, it will make your waist measurement larger, but that will be mostly erector (see left).

Yes, it will make your waist thicker, but you can make bigger shoulders to cover it up. :)

See the thing is ......I'm already a wide framed guy...Even 6 months ago when I weighed a measly 165, i was still wide. I don't ever want to look too huge, meaning I'd rather keep the waistline slim so I don't have to get too huge int he upper body to look tapered, know what i mean?

Believe me I fucking LOVE deadlifts, i mean i have a bad back and i love being able to pretty much overcome my "disability" if you will and deadlift, BUT, adding in the fact that there's always a good chance i MAY hurt myself ont hem because of my bad back, and that continuing with them would mean having to get a ridiculously huge upper body to look tapered like i wantt o...I think I truly will have to pass on the deadlifts, and stick to high rep hyperextensions maybe?
