that's right and more scholarships than these few are necessary.
Thus, African-Americans are often at a disadvantage in the admissions process and accordingly are at a major disadvantage in the financial aid process as well. Why? Because very often African-Americans are first generation college students---hence their parents often lack the funds to contribute to their children's education.

actually being a first generation college student gets you more financial aid. The money is there for minorities. I've know an atleast 5-6 guys on my football team that didn't get their NAACP scholarships because they didn't get a 2.0 gpa. And another one didn't get it because he was too damn lazy to fill out the forms. You can lead a horse to water...
as far as scholarships go...don't say shit to me. I've been royally dicked over. My parents don't contribute to my college, but I can't declare myself as a independant untill I'm 22. So even though I pay all my own tuition, rent, and living expenses.....according to Finacial Aid my family contributes 18,000/year towards my schooling. Thus, I get no finacial aid.
I'm usually not one to complain though. I made ways to make it work. So there's no way in hell I'm gonna feel sorry for a minority not getting into a certain school, or being turned down for a scholarship because of their lackof effort. I think you'll find that most colleges...especially Ivy League schools will give priority to a minority to make their college be more diverse. I think that is somewhat of a goo thing though.
whew..I'm done.
