Also, African-Americans are a minority in terms of numbers and in terms of treatment. Initiatives to remedy past and modern inequities are not only constitutional but are an American obligation as well.
Finally, Natymike, I've never fully understood why in the world competing against just 13% of the population alarms you so. You are still in the majority----it will be you an employer will most likely hire; it is you that can walk peacefully through a department store without being watched for theft; and it is you that stands the best chance of belonging to the good ol' powerful white boys club later in life. Are these desirable realities? Absolutely not. However, they are just that---REALITY.
I'm most satisfied that opportunities through scholarships and the admission process are available to many of our fellow Americans who have been oppressed for so long. You ought to be as well........

Enron shareholders are recently paid the price, Chrysler shareholders previously paid the price, Arther Anderson shareholders are now paying the price.
I suggest you look at those corporations existing in your portfolio with a watchful eye---look at their history and their financial statements very closely. Afterall, that is your responsibility isn't it? If you find that certain companies have past or future liability then don't invest.
Remember, the same capitalistic society you probably hold in such high regard has a price----personal responsibility through making wise investment decisions.

Why do whites get jobs before the minority? Because we worked to get where we are. We studied and we know what we are doing. We don't have any skin color to play advantage to us so we must sit down and learn it. By knowing what we choose to learn it makes us better employees and more desirable to the employer. That is why we are hired first. So if the minorities want to be hired just the same, they should crack open a book and excel with their smarts, not their skin.

Yes Ryan, but slavery was legal and socially acceptable then. They weren't breaking anylaws just following the norm. So why should someone be punnished for doing something that was totally legal in that time?
Thats like the government making it illeagal today to have an abortion. Should a lawsuit now be brought upon the pharmaceutical companies for making an abortion pill ten years ago when it was legal to get an abortion. I personally am agasint abortions but you cannot use the law to punnish someone for something that wasnt breaking the law when the act was being done......

The answers pretty apparent. Blacks have been mistreated, abused, and isolated from the very oppurtunities created, in a large part, by the efforts of their enslaved ancestors. Every great civilization has enjoyed free labor from slave populations which feul the expansion of commerce and support further government infastructure development. ITs what makes a nation great compared to the rest. Free fucking labor. America used the blacks, then they turn their back on them and claim they owe them nothing.
This is what i see on this thread. People reacting to their perceptions of 21st centure black ghetto culture, and not the actual atrocity which incited the lawsuit. Yes, the majority of black ghetto culture glorifies violence, killing, drug use, ect. Yes, its stupid. And yes, alot of blacks perpetuate this sterotype by adopting similar behavours. But when the fuck is it going to end?? It ends when the black population realizes the merits of education and HAS ACCESS TO THAT EDUCATION.
The compensation owed to blacks from slave ownership can be used for this very purpose. You all should be thankfull we live in such a society where justified retribution can be sought and won. Its your fellow man out there. wake the fuck up.
