a buddy of mine is goign to school for fitness and health related things and has told me below parallel puts alot of of the weight on the hips.. i know i feel i when i go deep

and is that military supposed to be standing or sitting? for the 1.0

This is untrue. They are actually better for your knees as the weight of the bar is trasferred from your knees to your hips when you break parallel.

Yes, it is true. Why? Because as soon as you begin to stand up to finish the rep, right as you hit parallel again the weight shifts right back to your knees.

Are you trying to say a heavier weight is easier on the joints than a lighter weight? Lol, that's totally backwards. More weight = more stress on joints. That is true for every excercise you can possibly think of.

not sure if this is true but heard it.

there should be a ratio of bench, squat, deads of 1:2:3.

anyone else ever heard of this?

Yeah I always thought that it went in order of heavyness:
Bench, Squat, Deadlift with the occasional guy that squats more than he deads.

I on the other hand am very shit at squats atm adn isnt much more than my bench. My Deads are fuckin awseome though

hmm ill go deep and see wut i think

Make sure you back off on the weight alot until you get the feel for it. Going deep will be an eye opening experience. Look at some of the members vids or do a google search to see what the sub-parallel squats should look like...

Military is standing. You stand tall with your chest out and back straight. The same posture you use when standing at attention in the Military.

Deep squats are hard on your knees hence the lighter weight.

So with your logic the stress being entirely on your knees throughout the whole rep is better for them than transfering the stress to your hips as you are changing from descending the weight to ascending it (which by my logic is the point of highest stress regardless of what joint the weight is being supported by.)

Alright, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

And no, as you can see I am not saying heavier weight is easier on the joints. I'm simply saying that deep squats are easier on your knee joints than parallel or above parallel squats are. Especially if you are planning to lift heavy weights.

Lol, In the future I would appreciate it if you didn't put words in my mouth.
