Anyone here a bartender?

<---former bar owner and bartender. Luv'd it. It was a blast and I disagree with needing to be hot. It's all about being able to hold a conversation/being witty.

works in dive bars. But in clubs, dance clubs, etc. - there's no time to have conversations. plus the music is way too loud to talk to anyone.

plus can't put 'witty conversation' on a resume. :)

Here in Ft Lauderdale, the boys at the gay barrrrrr that are bar tenders, they work 3 nights per week, get health benefits and insurance, and make over $80,000 minimum in cash yearly.

There are barbacks there that have been waiting YEARS for the chance to step up and fill a bartender role.

fixed....

I disagree totally, I can teach any monkey (no offense PM) how to make a drink. I can't teach them how to interact. There's a lot more to communication than the spoken word.

there are bartenders and there are bartenders. if you waqnt to work at an APP style club, you arent a bartender - youre a promoboy that serves. if you want to work in a pub, then you usually just have to have good work ethic nd to come across well to customers - which means having enough social skills to banter with them etc so as to add to their night

anyway i dj now and so dont give a shit (i make per hour what the bartenders make in their entire night) but were i to want to get into the bar game again, id go to a college bar or somethign like that, and be willing to work. then id smile and act nice to EVERYBODY (and hang as much shit on them as possible). result: endless girls and as much work as you can handle

id also consider being a dj. you make 5x more :)

I've done both...dj and bartended (sp?). I dj'd professionally in and out of clubs and on the radio for over 12 years. Did the bartending thing for over 6 years PT. I'd have to say there are advatages and disadvantages to each.

Overall, golden you are pretty much correct.

i know plenty of ok looking dudes that are batenders that work at good places. even 10 years ago, they were making 800-1200 on busy a saturday night.

I was told today at work that i should be a bartender

i know you have to be hot, have the right certification but what else do you need to be a bartender?

my current job uses the same tools (shakers, shots, scoops etc) so ive become quite accustomed to them to the point where when i make drinks people are usually impressed

ive always wanted to be a bartender but never had any motivation to persue it, and ive always thought it would be a cool second job or just somehitng on the side

how hot do you have to be to sling drinks?
it's more usefull to have personality and interact with the customers
a slick suave male bartender can pull tips equal to or greater than a hot babe
the hot babes are typically lazy and just serve the drinks with no flair

I bartended for a dozen years

the best combo is slick guy and hot girl behind the bar
all girls behind the bar is lame and telegraphs mgmt has limited thinking

a good guy bartender will develope a female clientele
chciks at the bar=more guys at the bar spending money

how many bars you go to and the bar is loaded with men
and yup there's barbie behind the bar

fuck that
I want a bar with chciks at it

Male or female you have to have nipples that strain at the fabric of your shirt for your entire shift.

You also have to possess great dick sucking skills so you can just apply and start working as a bartender immediately and not pay your dues as a bar back first.
I barbacked at age 20 in the busiest club in town for 9mos.
and then got promoted to bartender

but that club fizzled and at age 22 I got on at a new high-end downtown hotel
it had a ritzy jazz bar and a danceclub

I worked the Jazz bar
the woman who hired me was very tough on me and taught me how to entertain and involve the customers
