It was an act of self defense.

I saw the uncensored clip too... Did you also see the dog panting and vigorously wagging his tail??? Moron....

Cops are supposed to have special training to determine when the use of deadly force, even in the case of an animal, is necessary and warranted, and are instructed to take each circumstance case by case... That cop was wrong... period...

Indeed and obviously he has some problems or issues that (despite what the investigation points out) would prevent him from fulfilling his duty by being able to quickly resolve wether or not a situation is a threat or not. He had no mental tact whatsoever. Maybe he has some issues with dogs or something. In that case, he should have sat in the car and called for backup and let someone else come and take over. Either way, I still hope someone breaks into his house in the middle of the night, ties him and his wife up and shoots her right in front of him.

The owner clearly told the idiot cop that the dog would not hurt him. It was not a pitbull it was a buldog mix (big difference). It was wagging it's tail. Dogs almost always run up to people wether or not they know them. Rarely are they aggressive when they approach. 280 million other americans see dogs everyday, sometimes dogs that scare them a lot. Somehow most get by without shooting them. this guy had a shotgun, pistol, nightstick, pepper spray and five buddies with the same. Not to mention the dogs owners were right there. He was scared?
I wonder how the mail gets delivered without thousands of dogs being shot everyday.
I think this guy was just a prick. He thought he was arresting robbery suspects who would have a lot more to worry about than their dog.
I'm in TN so it's really the only news around here. He as been investigated on "several" other dog shootings.

MY NEIGHBOR THREATENED TO KILL MY DOG ONCE. HIS LITTLE KID WAS TOURMENTING HIM THROUGH THE FENCE SO NATURALLY, WHEN I WALKED HIM OUT FRONT AND HE SAW THE KID HE STARTED GROWLING. I HAD HIM ON THE LEASH.

I TOLD MY NEIGHBOR IF HE DID ANYTHING TO MY SON (DOG), I WOULD KILL HIS LITTLE BOY. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I TOLD HIM IF HE SHOT MY DOG, I'D SHOOT HIS KID, IF HE POISONED MY DOG, I'D POISON HIS KID. THEY MOVED A FEW MONTHS LATER.

I feel really bad for those people but if that would have been me I might have done the same thing. Because I know NOTHING about dogs. I'm one of those people that are scared of all dogs and if a dog came towards me I may have done the same thing. Yes, the officer should have used pepper spray or just hit him, not shot him. But in the heat of the moment who's to say what you'll do.

As for the troops, I feel very sad for their families. I was watching CNN last night and they were showing some of the Marines that are shipping out and almost all of them had wives and children.

While i don't think the cop was justified at all in shooting that poor dog- comparing a human life to a dog's life is just ridiculous.

That was alex's point in this whole post. People sometimes make more of a fuss over a dog getting shot than over a person getting shot...

I think part of the problem is the attitude of police. I had a cop tell me one time that he couldn't wait until someone gave him an excuse to shoot them.
When a cop actually wants a reason to shoot someone they will certainly find a reason on their job. Sure enough, this cop later shot an unarmed black kid in the back. He then was cleared in a civil trial (no criminal charges were ever filed) because it was an "accidental shooting".

and that unarmed criminal became that way by accident, right?

Drug dealers often have dogs that are trained to bite.

Everything was so quick that the cop had no time to properly decide. The cop thought that this was a legitimate bust, bassed on erraneous info that he received.

Maybe they should sue the witness who gave wrong information.

NO wrong info = no bust = no dangerous situation.
